Waiting for the latest issue of RR was a big deal at many stations. I remember each department head would read and initial then pass it on down the line. By the time RR got to the jocks it was about 2 weeks old but you didn’t care. I would read it cover to cover. I also remember then PD Bruce Clark at WQBE would rip out the Job openings then pass it on. Geeezzee

Was reading stories on another board, apperently a lot of PDs did that before letting their jocks have it.

I remember reading my first R&R many years ago as a board op/producer/annoucer at a small market station.. the MD would read it then leave it on the break table outside the FM Mix studio's ... I would snatch it up soon as it was left there... Finally the Friday's I worked he would start to bring it to me in the AM studio after he was done with it... I would board op baseball games and read the R&R cover to cover word for word, sometimes multiple times.

Common. Not only would that encourage jocks to stay, it would prevent them from seeing if you had something in mind.

The thing to do....well, now, to have done.....was realize that R&R took anybody's money and subscribe, yourself. That way, you could walk around with it under your arm, point out that the mailing label says "you," and either freak out or gain the respect of your superiors.

Modesty prevents me from commenting on the CHR page, but I was pretty happy with the recognition...

My apologies if it was mentioned in some other post. I haven't checked in lately.

The blurb they had about me during the days after the release was all I saw posted here. In the last R and R issue (fittingly), Kevin Carter ran a whole page on yours truly, goofy picture and all.

Again, modesty prevents me. But you'd have to SEE the final issue to know what I'm talking about. I just wondered if anyone did. I got very little feedback about it, as though no one read it.

I found the karma interesting with a full page article about the death of one institution...in the issue that signalled the death of another.

Sidenote--I was one of the first R and R country reporters at WWHY circa 1972-73...whenever they began.
