Breaking: AOL and TimeWarner Splitting

There's a lesson in this for AOL and everybody. Stop trying to sell buggy whips once automobile use becomes widespread. Adapt and move on or die. Stay ahead of the curve, if at all possible. Being The Shit in 1999 doesn't mean the sparkle will automatically last forever. For most people these days, AOL is permanently branded as a heavy-handed, expensive dial-up internet service provider with some neat chat rooms. Anything else they do or ever did is largely irrelevant.



P.S. Just leave my Time-Warner Cable and internet service alone, guys. I like it.

I will have to say the handwriting has been on the wall with this for the last few months. TimeWarner properties have been distributing more of their content to Yahoo and MSN while the Weblogs, Inc. properties have been beat regularly by Gawker Media sites in the last 3 months.

I think I predicted on this board in 2001 that the merger of AOL and TimeWarner would collapse.

I'm shocked that it has officially lasted this long.
