Mancow Waterboarded, Admits It's Torture
And so it went Friday morning when WLS radio host Erich "Mancow" Muller decided to subject himself to the controversial practice of waterboarding live on his show.

Unfortunatley for the right, he proved it works to get somebody to say anything you want them to say, not accurate info.
And oh yeah, it's torture.
And he only lasted six seconds. C'mon, the average is 14.
182 more times and he'll tie Mohammed Sheik Kalid's record.
Go Mancow go !

Of course, the valid information we got from the Sheik all came from before he was water boarded, according to the agent who initially interrogated him.
With all due respect to Memorial Day, Lester, if you were captured by an enemy, would you think it appropriate for them to try to drown you? Because, if it's okay for "us" to do it to "them", isn't it okay for "them" to do it to "us"?
And does it bother you that the guys who authorised water boarding by "us", never served in the military?

Our current enemy would actually rather behead me with a pocket knife and post it on YouTube. Where is that in the CIA arsenal?Bob Campbell wrote:With all due respect to Memorial Day, Lester, if you were captured by an enemy, would you think it appropriate for them to try to drown you? Waterboarding is not drowning. It is the impression of drowning. I'll let the politicos continue to battle over whether or not it is torture.
But "you people" bitch about loud music and "flushing" a Quran being torture... so I would expect nothing else in this regard.

If it saves American lives, so be it.
This is one part of the Geneva Conventions that has not been adhered to by anybody.
Dragging bodies thru the streets, hanging them from bridges are only the few that were
seen on the news. War is a nasty business and information is gold.
To answer you question to Lester, enhanced interrogation would do no good and the enemies know that.
Valuable info or corroboration of info is held by a relatively few high level people.
Extracting info from low level soldiers could yield information only in small bits and pieces
assembled over a long period. Much too long for a tactical situation. The intelligence bits needed
to protect from a strategic attack are closely held by important people. If we get one of those important
people in custody we will extract information from them. otherwise why take them alive in the first place.
Low level prisoners are used for propaganda purposes only to the gullible or friendly world press.

Re: Mancow Waterboarded, Admits It's Torture
From one of your own, Mancow, waterboarding is "drowning". You just don't (always) die. In WW II, Korea and Vietnam, it was classified as torture.
Seriously, as an American, I am willing to die for my country. If that means being killed in an explosion that we didn't stop because we refused to torture somebody, so be it. That's how I'll pay the price of freedom. We toss around notions like "freedom isn't free", but we seldom put them into practice.
If we do to them what they do to us, how do we differ? America is supposed to be better than that. The very foundation of this nation is that we DON'T do things like torture. I for one, would not want my life saved by it.
I have yet to see anyone besides Cheney say torture works. Even a talking head like Mancow, who is as far right as they come, admits it it torture.
If we've actually received real intelligence from torturing prisoners, release it. Surely there must be one tiny piece of info we've gotten over the last 50 years that could safely be released to prove torture is effective. The reason that hasn't happened is because we haven't gotten it.
America has to stand for something better than what we're fighting or we've already lost.

Now Gen. Petreus(sp?) comes out and calls it torture, saying it made us less safe and acted as an ad for terrorist recruitment.

I totally agree. With today's media, failure to let the terrorists go immediately makes us "less safe" and is an "ad for terrorist recruitment". Al-Queda has a PR department now. CNN should be ashamed, yet they still play along.Bob Campbell wrote:saying it made us less safe and acted as an ad for terrorist recruitment.
And to revive an older topic: Bob, you said that deaths in Iraq were still being covered with the same attention under Obama that they were under Bush. Can you get me some information on the death of Levi Bernard? I can only find passing reference in the Memorial Day activites that happened just after his death, but no actual news story on his passing. Thanks.

Re: Mancow Waterboarded, Admits It's Torture
I'm not familiar with Levin Bernard, but I haven't watched Tv news at all for the last 4 days (hard to believe, I know). There was a story in this morning's W-S Journal about 3 killed in Iraq, but I only read the headline.
Good news, less deaths.
Bad news, less deaths equals less coverage.
