We would be seriously remiss if we didn't pause to ponder the remarkable radio accomplishment of Gary "Music" Miller, who spent the past 31 years -- the equivalent of about 17 average radio gigs -- at one station: Clear Channel CHR/top 40 WKEE/Huntington, W.Va. Unfortunately, Miller, who started at the station back in 1978, was downsized from his APD/MD/afternoon gig on Tuesday, as was his wife, Kim, who was a clerical assistant at the station. In my lifetime, until now that we have Ryan "No talent ass clown" Seacrest now doing afternoon drive in a city he's never heard of, has nothing in common with, and will NEVER set foot in, there were before only two men who ever had afternoon drive duties at KEE... Jack O'Shea and Gary "Music" Miller. Both are Hall of Fame caliber talents with the track record to show for it.
I doubt that Gary will be unemployed any longer than he wants to be, he's an immense talent and a fine human being, an asset to any station that is fortunate enough to bring him on board. My boss and best friend, on my telling him Gary was gone from KEE was shocked... "I knew it was summer when I was at the pool listening to Gary "Music Miller" he said.
At this point I wonder how long KEE even exists. They've just assassinated the character and market identity it had. I suspect CC turns it into a cookie cutter KISS station and voice tracks it from Cincinnati. This won't work.
PS: If Judy wanted to get rid of overpaid, undertalented deadwood (which is what you are supposed to do when downsizing in bad economic times) why does JIM "MY KEYBOARD LACKS A SHIFT KEE" DAVIS still have a job?

It also won't happen. Music will not come from regional hubs...only news and so-called localism. Voicetracked music sections will come nationally, as Mr. Seacrest's program(s) already do(es). Like Delilah and John Boy and Billy, even different versions of the music can be made available with the same so-called talent hosting. Why do from several regions what can allegedly be done well from one national location? No need to pay even six or a dozen people to try to do well what hundreds used to when you can have just one attempt to do it.

Having been through the calculus of calculating who gets the axe vs. who stays to man the sinking ship, I can come up with several scenarios as to why you would make the moves that happened at the blue box.
I am not here to defend this because these acts of cutting staff and substituting shows from LA and NYC is just wrong. It is funny that I have heard these scenarios for the last 20 years starting with journalism and broadcast teachers in high school through the debates that we had on this forum on the future of Clear Channel when it was publicly traded.
I know times are tough, but cutting vital organs from the body in an attempt to keep the doors open is never a successful approach to business.
