Elvis Duran

Post by Ace Purple »

It looks like Elvis Duran is getting the mega-push in syndication. New stations for him, according to All Access, include:

WBKS/Huntington, WV
WVKF/Wheeling, WV
WRVB/Parkersburg, WV

A couple of questions:

What's the difference between his show and Kidd Kraddick's? I've never heard him, but KK doesn't exactly wow me.

He originates at Z-100. Is the show available for general syndication? Or is it part of CC's "in-house" thing?

I guess the CC CHRs that start with a "W" get Elvis. The ones that start with a "K" get Ryan.

Great plan...

Elvis Duran recently signed with Premiere, which explains in large part him going from limited syndication (e.g. Miami, Cleveland, Philadelphia) to landing so many new markets. The majority of his new stations are owned by Clear Channel, but there are some non-CC stations involved.

Very true -- suddenly his presence in the region is very strong.

Kraddick airs here in Nashville. He is good at what he does, but it's not a show that's particularly designed to appeal to males. I've not heard much of Duran's show, though I know numerous people in the biz who have spoken highly about him.

Ft. Myers just landed both Kraddick and Duran's shows. That head-to-head matchup will be interesting to see play out, albeit slowly since Ft. Myers is still a two-book-a-year market.

The Elvis Duran Show as it was a year ago was much to "hot" for markets like west Huntington and Parkersburg. I assume this means that Clear Channel is going to numb the content (even more than now) to the point where the show not only makes everybody in the middle part of the nation mad to where they won't listen, but NY'ers will no longer care about the content of the show either.

Congratulations Cubbie! KTU just won the battle for NYC morning drive supremacy.

Ugh.

Does everything have to be dumbed down for smaller markets? Is the audience really that stupid?

There's a reason why some of us listen to satellite and large market webstreams.

CHR Stations have a choice between Elvis in the mornings and Dave and Jimmy out of Columbus for their premium choice formated stations as part of Clear Channel's premium choice plan.

A recent article on R&R's website details more:

A total of 17 stations are affected, all of which have been dropped from R&R's chart panels due to chart policy regarding stations that carry syndicated or identical programming throughout most of the day.

"R&R has longstanding policies regarding the inclusion of syndicated networks on our spin-based chart panels, as well as the amount of non-local programming that reporting stations air," director of charts Silvio Pietroluongo says. "We continue to monitor the extent of identical music programming on our reporting Clear Channel stations and will make adjustments to the respective panels as necessary."
If R&R had a set, it'd find the smallest market airing the duplicated programming and keep that one as the reporter....dump all the largers all the way up as high as they go.
"I don't know the same things you don't know."

"Yes, you do; you just won't admit it!"

I have to admit that I was pretty impressed with the Z Morning Zoo this morning as they were acting like they had a bar in the studio and getting drunk.

Classic Elvis Duran et. al. this morning. There might be hope yet. Unless CC pulls a boner like Valentine in the Morning and the watered down highlights of a real show mixed with music and other recorded VT'd sets.
