Stewart Smalley: The face of America

This is a good place to drop general and weird news, entertainment, and general show prep material that might be interesting to air talent or producers. Hot dog threads ALWAYS welcome.

Stewart Smalley: The face of America

Post by CoolBreeze »

Our nation should be very proud.

A COMEDIAN who had a walk-on part in the Rutles film spoof of the Beatles is poised to deliver a 60-seat super-majority to the Democrats in the Senate as President Barack Obama consolidates his grip on the levers of power.

Al Franken, 57, a satirist turned Democrat politician, is expected to be proclaimed the winner of the protracted race for the US Senate in Minnesota, in time to give Obama a free hand to appoint a Supreme Court replacement for retiring Justice David Souter without fear of Republican blocking tactics.

If Franken wins, Obama will hold an unassailable majority after Senator Arlen Specter’s sudden defection from the Republicans to the Democrats last week. A 60-seat majority would deprive the Republicans of the ability to scupper appointments and legislation by filibustering.

Do you wake up every morning searching for something to be angry about?
Look, we get it.
You're a hard core, right wing conservative. You don't like Obama. You don't like Democrats.
You always wanted to be Charleston's Rush Limbaugh.
But enough, already.
Al Franken was an comedian/actor who did a gig on Satutrday Night Live years ago.
Not really much different than your hero Ronald Reagan, huh?
Franken won the election in Minnesota despite the legal manuevering of Crybaby Coleman.
The American people don't want what youse guys were/are selling.
You lost.
And, if Arlen Spector is any indication, you're still losing.

Who has to search?

I'm in no way a member of the Republican Party... just a guy like most, who's tired of getting screwed by BOTH sides and knows that it's going to get much worse. That's all.

Someone please post one of the Reagan and chimp photos from "Bedtime for Bonzo".

Note that the article comes from a leftist paper in the UK....

What's really mind-blowing, for those of you who can't or refuse to see, is how leftist socialists in the UK, France, and Germany have all been saying, "Wow....America's gone too far left for even us!"

When the lefties in socialist countries think you're really left,.......wow.........just, "wow."

That post was matter-of-fact.

Thanks for proving that lefties' main tactic is "attack the attacker," though. "Never deal with the reality; change the subject, deflect, distract, detract, and dismiss."

Again, the reality -- European socialists, who know exactly what they're talking about if anyone does, now see America as to the left of them.

Not actually true, but nice try. Nothing in the article states or even suggests that the US is now left of Europe. Please, I mean really, look up the definition of "socialism". It just isn't happening here.

America has returned to a centrist government. We've been so far right for most of the last decade that it just seems left.

PS One of the other stories at the top of the site was "Namibian Bushmen First in The Garden Of Eden".

Arp, it's obvious you need political reeducation. Get with the New Program, comrade.

You remain blind. Or ignorant. Or simply don't tell the truth out loud. "Socialism" no longer technically means "owning the means of production" for actually owning them is no longer necessary to achieve the desired result. Plus, given the fact that the current office-holders have Marxist philosophical backgrounds, it's important to see the word "socialism" as they do -- the transitional stage to the Marxist ideal.

America's government is now clearly to the left of most of Europe's socialist governments. Folks, if you're not seeing it already, it is going to blow your mind how many companies and jobs are going to exit the United States in the next three years. The resulting situation will leave virtually all dependent on the gubmint for either their income or services and a gubmint in need of inflating its currency (destroying any US-currency-based wealth you may have) to deal with its own size. It will be portrayed as Asia, Australasia, and The Pacific as having "won" or "beat us," but it will have been done intentionally.

This is no longer the country or world we all grew up in. This is the pivotal time of all our lives. The "change" that's in the planning or execution stages is going to leave...well, people telling past-tense stories of freedom and liberty to their kids and grandkids, who, themselves, will have trouble imagining how people earned or bought without going through the gubmint.

There's an English-speaking country whose news I follow....its leaders and academics have already begun "hypothetical" discussions on how to deal with what they estimate will be at least seven figures-worth of what they're already calling "refugees." Their initial areas of focus -- water supply, housing, and what will likely be an explosion in real estate values because most will be coming with some money. Next area of focus -- what that number of successful freedom-lovers will mean to their current left-leaning political structure.

Eh....enough.

 O, that it were so simple!

Partially as a joke, I mentioned They Live....it's an interesting analog, though, because, once those guys could see, there was no option but to do something. The movie presented only three choices, but our world features one or two more now with an additional one added later 15-20 years down the road. I'm not sure which of those I will choose but am afraid certain situations will eliminate the one I really want. Very unfortunate.

Arp, I love your grammar. But dude, you have just entered the world of the extreme wacko.
Wow.

Socialism still means what it means. The article didn't have a hint of language labelling the US left of Europe. Read it again.

If you're to be believed, the current administration has been plotting and is now attempting the complete overthrow of the American system. I guess you think the next step will be outlawing the GOP and competing parties.

The republic lives, it breathes, things change. While I disagreed with nearly every policy of the Bush administration, I don't think they were trying to destroy the Republic. The fact that they nearly did was more gross incompetence than inherent evil. Except of course for Cheney, Rumsfeld, and Rove.

I'd much prefer government stakes in business than government watchdogs on my phone, and computer, and in my bedroom, and my library.

He's been there for some time, Bob.
Arp rails against "liberals" the way Hallburn rails against Wal-Mart.
Most people here were temporarily mesmerized (and intimidated) by Arp's extensive and flowery vocabulary.
Unfortunately, a few still are.

And now for something completely different...

This is me back in 85, after spending 6 hours underground video taping. I am mimicking the mine foreman who's standing just out of camera range. It's raining, I'm tired, and I'm talking about a "Coal Miners Headache".

I spent 20 minutes of my time today getting my car inspected, with the end result being I paid a tax to the state just so they could put a sticker on it saying it was "safe" and "acceptable" to drive on their roads.

Thank God it passed. I know someone who going to have to shell out $500 because his clunker didn't pass.

If there ever was a regressive tax, it's state inspections. Rich people don't drive clunkers, for the most part.

What does this have to do with socialism? Everything.

Imagine having to stand in line and pay a tax to get approval for everything you want to do. And your ideas either "pass", or get "rejected" for whatever reason.

Not the most perfect analogy, but sufficient.
