If you are going with Blu-Ray DVD in the future, then you want the Vizio. For just watching cable TV, the Sony will give the same level of detail compared to the Vizio.
Both are good TVs.

I've got a Vizio, and although I had to have the motheboard replaced under warranty (every once in a while, it would stop responding to controls - no problems after the repair,) I like it very well and I would buy another. Of Course as a general rule Sonys are considered very high in quality and reliablility. If it was me, I'd get the Vizio, more bang for the buck, plus better resolution - even without HDTV signal, you'll see the difference with cheap upconverting DVD players.
My friend is a big TV addict, he says look out of WalMArt models of TVs, WalMArt makes special deals and has special price-point TVs built. Even though you think it's the same model as Sears or where ever, it will have slightly lesser specs. Walmart TVs will always have special walmart prefixs on the model numbers. Don't skip looking at Sam's Club, they have regular TVs and their prices are good.

I've got a 32-inch Vizio TV.
No complaints so far.
I'll agree with the other guys that you probably can't go wrong with either one.
Just depends on how much you want to spend.

Very True. HP computers and printers sold at WalMart have a part number that ends in "WM." The rest of the stores sell the same product with a part number that ends in "US." To the untrained person both look the same, but the components in the WalMart SKU will not be the same as those in the other SKU.
Costco, BJ's and Sam's Club typically sell a different SKU from the rest of the retail stores as well, but the overall quality of the product more than likely is not less than the quality of the standard retail product. In some cases, (Michelin tires come to mind) the discount club version exceeds the quality of the version available through retail.

Just a note that, when thinking about 16:9 TVs versus existing 4:3 TVs, a ballpark rule of thumb is that you have to add 10" to your 4:3's size to get about the same size pic. In other words, your experience with that 32" would be a whole lot closer to that of an old 19" or 20" than a 27". If you have a 27 now, you gotta go 37 to have about the same and 42" to start getting bigger and better.

I've got either a 26" or 27" now.
In case you're interested, with what we have discussed so far, I would be leaning toward a 37" Vizio. Sam's has it for $620 or thereabouts, but I was planning on paying half cash and half Visa card...which cannot happen at Sam's. But then again, if they would happen to have a "save so much off" if you open a Sam's Credit Card account...

I have a high-20-something inch Vizio and it's a good TV. Had it for a year now with no problems at all. My mom bought a Polaroid, and aside from a weird glitch from it to start with -- for some reason, channel 61 and 62 were both showing 62's programming, and I couldn't figure it out, so I had her take it back and get another one -- the Polaroid has been good so far.
Vizio is giving away something like a million dollars worth of product at vizio.com so I heard on the Herd on ESPN this morning. Friend of mine has a big vizio and loves it.
I think Vizio is an American company also. Started by a Korean.
