How many times have you seen West Virginians going down the highway with a load secured to the top of their vehicles? I've seen drivers and passengers holding on to the load with one hand each while driving! Usually this involves mattresses, but I've also seen plywood and sheet-rock carried this way. Needless to say, this has always been a dangerous practice, and now.... this:
Authorities have identified a motorcyclist who was killed while trying to avoid plywood that had fallen from a truck onto Interstate 77.
Kanawha deputies said James L. Meredith, 59, of Elkview was riding with a group of motorcyclists heading north behind a van carrying a load of plywood Saturday morning.
The van, driven by James Thomas of Kenna, lost five sheets of plywood that had been secured to the top of the van, Lt. Sean Crosier said. The sheets landed on the roadway.
Meredith tried to avoid the plywood and another vehicle that had lost control and ran off the road just south of the Tuppers Creek exit, Crosier said.

Re: Hillbilly pickup trucks
most people take the time to secure their loads in some fashion and dont go the full speed limit down the interstate either.. also, didnt see where the distance the biker was following the truck at or the speed he was going at either. some common sense could have probably prevented this.
