Why McDonalds is beating Burger King

This is a good place to drop general and weird news, entertainment, and general show prep material that might be interesting to air talent or producers. Hot dog threads ALWAYS welcome.

I don't eat at either place regularly, but I go to Mc's more than BK, even though I like BK's burgers more overall.

Why? Mc's value menu can't be beat. I also don't like places that charge more for cheese. There's just something about that that seems so cheap. A burger as great as the Whopper should just come with cheese, period.

It also seems like I always spend more at BK than Mc's for the same amount of food.

Oh, and Mc's fries are much better.

As for the Big King ads, I just never got them... I give them credit for taking a risk on them, though.

The most interesting thing about that article to me is that two-thirds of McDonald's revenue is generated overseas. This is great, because exporting bad health habits is just what we need to level the playing field. 8)

I notice one big thing about McD's vs. elsewhere: a consistent, chainwide decent mix in the Coke fountain. Everybody else is widely inconsistent and mainly cut very thinly, I suppose to reduce cost and reduce the frequency of bottle changing. I've noticed last fews years that no matter where I go, McDonald's is considerably busier than their competitors, and I find I will often default to McD's when nothing really sounds good, because I know I will get a good Coke.

I have always favored Mickey D's for their consistency over BK. I am not taking away from BK's food because it is always good, but I know the Southern Chicken Sandwich from McDonalds will taste the same all over the nation. The same is not true of many other chains. Even Chick-Fil-A has variations from region to region that McDonalds works very hard to avoid.

And for those wanting a good soda fountain Coca-Cola, the mix used in Atlanta is always better than anywhere else in the nation. Even the Diet Coke in north Georgia is delicious and Coke Zero really tastes like Coke Classic..... er, Coca Cola. Can you tell I really relate to the I Love the 80's series on VH1.

[Looking at a commemorative bottle of Coke from a conference I attended in Atlanta last month]

Well, I will be a monkey's uncle.... The cap on my 7 oz bottle says Coke Classic. I guess that is still a proper name.

And wasn't it this week in 1985 that "New Coke" was introduced?

I am not a huge fan of McDonalds burgers but I love their fries and shakes. I also very seldom get screwed in their drive thru. I almost ALWAYS get screwed by Taco Bell.

The big problem I have the BK is their incessant microwaving of everything they serve. The burger is so blasted hot that it is not safe for consumption for 10 minutes or so. I have been burned (rather badly) by the super-heated ketchup puddle in the middle of the burger.

Further, the "steakhouse" burgers and the worst atrocity ever committed by a fast-food enterprise. They are awful and taste nothing like a steak burger.

Hardee's, on the other hand, kicks ass as far as I am concerned. However, like Cam's Ham, the restaurant is a dump but the food is good.

I hate the big-head king, but I loved Quizno's much-maligned Spongemonkeys. The world is upside down.
