I just don't get it!

As hard as I've tried, I just don't get the popularity of Miley Cyrus!

I get all the other "strange" but popular things that have become pop cultures, even the the worst of the worst... "Beavis & Butthead", so why cant I understand this?

Yes, I remember when Billy Ray Cyrus played a lot in Huntington and the surrounding area. I remember how he got a world class break and instant fame with "Achy Breaky Heart". But I also remember how it was all down hill from there. Oh sure, he had some more hits but I think they were "Residuals", songs that sell just because a person has a huge first hit. But never mind that. A "one hit wonder" is what he was about to be known as from most people who had at least heard Achy Breaky. Even worse, no country music star in history would ever be made more fun of in the coming years. His hair style alone was the butt of more jokes than any hairstyle in pop culture. His song, and it's title was soon to become a joke also, even appearing on The Simpsons. We thought we'd heard the last of Billy Ray.....

But then:

Out of no where comes Billy's daughter Miley. Within a couple of years she is the number one product on the market! Why? She isn't attractive in the least. She's no Shirley Temple by far. Is that why young girls identify with her? Her acting is IMHO only fair, and the one thing that I REALLY dont understand is Billy's current role with her. I mean....

How lucky can a guy get?

Here he is, appearing in all sorts of TV roles with his daughter. Now, talk about BAD acting! And that HAIR and face hair has been tamed for sure, but is still as hillbilly as ever. Did he insist that in order for them to get Miley, they had to take him too? Or was it the other way around? No matter, because Billy spawned a gold mine that he is lucky enough to be a part of.

They say lightning strikes only once, but for Billy Ray it's ongoing. What are the odds that some country hick and his daughter would become Bizillionares with one silly little song and one slightly talented daughter? How did this happen?

Forget the meaning of life, I'm still trying to figure THIS out. Nothing about this makes any sense.

I've never been a Billy Ray fan, or a fan of country music in general. But, his treatment by his own industry is what helped me form a negative opinion of country.

The bad mullet was one thing... But I remember him getting shit because he wasn't "country enough", because he didn't wear cowboy boots. Why would any man that wasn't a closet fag choose to wear comfortable sneakers instead?

We seen another example of this during the Dixie Chicks controversy. This helped me seal my conclusion:

In the country world, you have to walk a thin line in your attitudes, opinions, and even dress. If you don't think a certain way, or dare to have opinions, you will be spited and ran out of the industry.

I've noticed in recent years that Nashville is more lenient towards fashion choices, and the lack of cowboy boots. I couldn't imagine Keith Urban getting anywhere in country industry with blond highlights even 10 years ago, for example.

Even Billy's got highlights now. Bet a lot of men his age wish they could still grow hair like that...

As for Miley, she looks "fun", if that makes any sense.

I'm still waiting to see what direction she goes in when she gets older... Will she keep it together like Hilary Duff? Or will she completely lose it like firecrotch and the rest of the coke gang?

Only time will tell.

Sometimes, I do feel like I'm watching the Beverly Hillbillies in real life, considering they are "one of us" by roots.

But I think she will be around for awhile, doing something... Her fame and popularity rivals anyone I've ever seen in my lifetime -- including Britney.

Why on Earth would you want to lump that Achy Breaky Bitch alongside Beavis and Butthead??

That show was popular when I was a junior in high school...and I knew PLENTY of kids (still do) who act the very same way. That's why it was funny. I still catch re-runs every now and then on MTV2.

I know many people who LOATHE Billy Ray, whether it be from jealousy or the fact that he didn't suck off or finger every skank at the Ragtime remains to be seen. However, he can still soak the panties of every 30+ woman around here.

And I agree with AmpedNow's post, his "feud" with Travis Tritt, who was respected at the time...probably didn't help matters much. The funny thing is, I remember Tritt saying he was turning country music into an "ass-shakin' contest" a few months later, there was Tritt in the video for "T-R-O-U-B-L-E" doing the exact same thing.

Billy Ray CAN sing, Miley can't...or act, for that matter.

"See You Again" is a very well-produced pop track. Not that I would buy it, but just sayin'...

She is teetering very close to overexposure, and that's a double-edged sword.
