Decades old predictions of the internet
These are fun to watch. Especially now that we can compare and see what prediction was right and what was wrong.

Mother at home like the shiny new dress she seen shopping on these new interweb things.
Father at work also sees the shiny new dress his wife wants, and the price tag.
Father doesn't like the price, but buys it anyway if he doesn't want to sleep on the couch tonight.

Tell that to my aching button-pushin' finger.Lee wrote:I still can't get over how life ISN'T like The Jetsons.
Also, I just can't see living in a world where outdoor treadmills 200 feet in-the-air don't have some type of saftey-rail!

Yeah, where's my flying car?
For a really great prediction of the internet, check out the book "The Shockwave Rider"
by John Brunner. Sci-fi from early 70's.

I'm just glad no one has to wear that futuristic skintight spandex pajama-suit clothing with the decorative Saturn rings around the neck ...

Yeah but you're forgetting about the anti-gravity suite everyone will be wearing.Cameron wrote:Also, I just can't see living in a world where outdoor treadmills 200 feet in-the-air don't have some type of saftey-rail!
I like how the husband has to approve all family expenses. I wish we could get back to that. I would gladly sleep on the couch for a night or two if I can get veto power over my wife's spending.
I also can appreciate the comments posted on the last video---the one with the "china-man". I was just bitching this very morning about the Indian customer service reps I get.

Re: Decades old predictions of the internet
I like the 1993 video where it's called just "internet" and not "the internet".
The video quality is horrible, and I hadn't yet learned the importance of speaking slowly on videos (or in not overusing the phrase "you know"), but here are a few thoughts I had on the future of the internet during Christmas Break of my freshman year of college in December 1995:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2ehZkO-zXsk
"What this right here just demonstrates is that there is a lot of different stuff you can do on the internet. I didn't -- we only touched on a few things, and you can get as in-depth in... But the thing is, though, this is the wave of the future. As much as this has grown here in five years this is going to grow even more, another five years, ten years. This is what the future's all about. This is what communication is going to be like by the time, you know, we're out of college (1999) and we're in the workplace, you know. Computer literacy is more important than ever. You know I'm fortunate that I have a computer here right now, but I think it's a must. I think that any family ten years from now is going to have to have one, if their kids want to compete in school or whatever it is that they're going to be competing in."
