ABC Radio News Anchor George Weber Found Dead

I had not heard him, but what tragic news for anyone. Let alone someone in the industry.

The ABC New Radio anchor was found stabbed to death in his Brooklyn apartment on Sunday morning (3/22). The veteran newsman’s body was found by police who had been sent to Weber’s home to investigate by ABC News Radio VP/GM Steve Jones who’s suspicions were aroused when Weber did not show up for work. “We are shocked and deeply saddened by the death of our friend and colleague who was the victim of what police have deemed a homicide,” said Jones in a statement released Sunday afternoon. “An investigation has been launched by NYPD and we have been assisting them. Our condolences go out to George’s friends and family at this very difficult time.”

Before joining ABC News Radio, Weber had a seven year run on WABC/New York as morning news anchor for Curtis and Kuby. His blue chip news radio resume also included stints at KIMN and KOA/Denver, KGO/San Francisco, KOGO/San Diego and KMPC/Los Angeles. Recently Weber had become an active online blogger at his website — still active as of this posting — at www.georgeweber.net. “George’s optimism, enthusiasm, skill and warm heart will be sadly missed by so many,” said former WABC PD Phil Boyce, now President of Talk Radio Network Syndications. “There is a note I found on his website that is particularly touching in light of this event that reads, ‘To all the firefighters, rescue workers and police officers — especially Brooklyn’s 76th precinct — for protecting all of us and reminding us that New York City ain’t that bad a place to live after all.’”
