It's a CVS. relocating from what is now the expensive rent medical condos where the East Hills Mall once was...It will also be far larger than the old store, what with HIMG across the street and Wal-Mart Pharmacy conveniently having moved much further away. Synergy....

maybe another fast food place will
locate next to Wendys. Arby's maybe?

It amazes me that all of this development continues when the economy is supposed to be in the shitter.

Northeast corner of the rt 60 intersection with Farmdale rd. They bought everything from Tire Stop down to Pizza Hut. Tire Stop will move to the new but empty Maco building. Don't know the time table yet.

Barboursville needs a radio station. There are plenty of clients here in the fastest growing part of Cabell county. Aittle local would roll the cash. Or at least I would. Advertisers are unhappy with the current state of radio here. Can't blame em' !

What? They aren't happy with the opportunity to advertise on WVHU, where Mr. Roten and all seven of his listeners are decidedly anti-Huntington and ready to spend their seventeen dollars elsewhere? And where, if they don't advertise, Mr. Roten will criticize their businesses by name (as he did Camden Park a couple of years ago, from the configuration of their concession stands to the pricing...and they WERE an advertiser...)

I've gone to several of these advertisers over nearly a year now to try to get them to let me make their radio spots. Most arn't even interested in radio and the most common reason is "no results"! Many don't like the pitch "Buy on em all or pay top dollar" (meaning buy a package deal across all their stations). And some have commented about the sales people directly. The "old school" idea of promoting the business and being an advertising advisor to the business has been blown away. To sum up the feelings of those I've talked to in my own words; The stations serving this area have nothing in common with us. They are not part of this community and never intend to be. They are the only 'game in town' and act like it.

Let me describe the scene at a remote at a local food store last year that I witnessed.
How this store ended up with this station is a mystery. It was not a "fit". The crew arrived early and set up a tent. Started playing the radio, then I noticed it was turned wayyy down! The "crew" looked like Hells Angles that had fought all night. Customers were avoiding these people. As the remote continued, cars began to park at the other end of the lot! This was clearly a "bad" situation for station and client.

A total failure of the sales department to understand what the client wanted, needed and who their customers were.

From what I'm being told, it's become a "take it or leave it" business.
And the answer is "leave it" !

Yes, times have changed....but the needs of the client haven't.

I used to take the station vehicle across the river to Big Sandy Superstore. I would pull in, walk inside and get the latest sales circular. Next, I would set up the Marti (assuming one was available, most of the time we used the phone built into the station vehicle). Then, I would proceed to read the circular over the air for 3 minutes per hour. That's it.

There was no customer interaction because there were no customers. The few that did drive up knew we were there to read the sales circular over the air so they just walked on inside.

There was once a rule where the AE assigned to the account had to attend the remote. In this case, the AE assigned to the Big Sandy account (and received NO commission on the account) sat in his vehicle and scratched lottery tickets while I sat inside the station vehicle and read the paper or did homework.

This is what the client wanted. They didn't care about customer interaction. We were there because we were part of "the package."

Tire Stop has now relocated to the Maco building . Demo may not be long off.

I have a friend that just left Beckley Oil (Little General) after decades to work for Sheetz. Says they are great. I just hope it isn't a ploy to use his "underground tank" license until they can get the stations installed!
