MMORPGs

This is a good place to drop general and weird news, entertainment, and general show prep material that might be interesting to air talent or producers. Hot dog threads ALWAYS welcome.

MMORPGs

Post by Lee »

I............just don't get it.

OK....last summer I downloaded WoW to see what all the hype was about. I'm a pretty avid gamer, although my gaming has been slacking in recent years due to being married, divorced...and now with a baby girl on the way, I really don't have the time.

I'm a pretty big platform RPG fan. I LOVE Zelda, Final Fantasy, Dragon Warrior, etc. So everyone was telling me to get WoW and how great it was. So I downloaded it...and was bored.

My first encounter with another player was them coming up to me....playing air guitar, and then running away. I kid you not. Is this how they "serve" people in the MMORPG world?

It's just too involved for me. Too much crap to do. And I got kinda weirded out when I hear stories about how people meet on this thing and fall in love and get married. That's just....creepy.

WOW fucking sucks donkey cocks. It's the Clear Channel of MMO's, serving the mass lowest common denominator.

Star Wars Galaxies wasn't that but was destroyed in an effort to clone WOW.

THIS is a MMORPG... And what I play:

http://www.tentonhammer.com/node/65476

A MMORPG published by a little company in Iceland. Which has about 300,000 subscribers. Hosted all on a SINGLE server with 30-50K online AT ONCE, about 10x bigger than any other MMO server. Epic fights with 1,000 on 1,000, and player owned and run EMPIRES...

Star Wars Galaxies blew after they got rid of perma-death. WoW was good for a long time, then it just totally tanked in terms of challenge. Keep hearing about possible MMo's that have potential, all end up dissappointing.

Meh, not so much. Lord of The Rings online is a pretty mature and good game, with not nearly the idiot 12 year olds WOW has. IMO.

Relax, it has nothing to do with LPFMs. Just go with it.

I'm still with FFXI. It's an old MMO, but still the second most populated one out there. But almost nobody knows that because it gets no love from the trade rags.

Square Enix will announce their new MMO in June, and I think many are hanging around FFXI until the new one comes out.

As for WoW, it's not bad, but the graphics look too cartoonish to me. The level of detail in the graphics and storyline in FFXI still put WoW to shame. It is a Japanese game, and they put more emphasis on the storyline than just running around slaughtering mobs.

However, if you like PvP or fast quests and leveling, FFXI is not your game. It can be a grind at times. There are quests, missions, and boss mobs that are impossible to solo. You need help from others at some point in the game.

FO3 provided me with many hours of fun. Have you tried the DLC for it? (I'm an old Fallout fanboi, got the 1st one and never looked back.) :)

I would if it was on the PS3. Course I have a feeling that it will show up some time next year.
