If U Seek Amy

This is a good place to drop general and weird news, entertainment, and general show prep material that might be interesting to air talent or producers. Hot dog threads ALWAYS welcome.

If U Seek Amy

The censorship police are back again...

Britney Spears' 'If U Seek Amy' Poses Censorship Problems For Radio
Scare some stations might not play the third Circus single, due to its not-so-subtle profanity.

By Gil Kaufman

Profanity in pop songs is old news. Hell, the chorus to Christina Aguilera's recent single, "Keeps Gettin' Better," kicks off with the phrase, "Some days I'm a super bi---." That one is easy enough for radio stations to edit out in order to avoid any fines from the FCC or threats to yank their licenses.

But what will they do with a new single from a major artist that doesn't actually contain a four-letter word, but rather spells it out in a not-so-subtle way? That dilemma is beginning to dawn on top-40 radio programmers across the country as the third single from album, "If U Seek Amy," starts to make its way to the airwaves.

You be the judge...

I am so embarrassed for the people who have nothing else better to do than search for hidden messages in songs.

I'm also embarrassed that their purified minds beat my already twisted mind to this little nugget of filth. I would've never heard this if it wasn't pointed out for me... Thanks for your help!

I hope you CHRs don't back down from this song just because some idiots have deemed it filthy. There's nothing wrong with it in its current form.

I won't argue that it's likely the implied meaning... But nothing profane is actually being said, therefore not finable by the FCC. Your mind has to already "be there" for this to be so apparent. Apparently, mine wasn't "there" enough.

Get a life.

Oh, you had to go there...

It's mind-boggling how such a homo-erotic song became so popular in the conservative 80's.

Heck, as an oldie, it's still popular.

And 100 times worse than this Amy song...

The only song we ever played at TCS that got negative mail. No calls. Mail. The old fashioned you had to pay it to say it kind.

Plus, it's been 24 years and within the last year or so I just got the "meaning" of the trilogy that opens up side three (I think it was) of "Welcome To The Pleasuredome".

Give 'em credit, though. Their version of "Born To Run" cooks...
