Who really cares what anyones call letters are? Will that increase listenership? Will it increase sales? I highly doubt. Will it confuse those who may or may not have had any clue what station it was before? Probably. After Nunely dropped out that was a sign - and not a good one.

Let me add, I used to like it (tribute to Nunely) but now I've come around to the Rock 105 way of thinking!!!

The call letter change won't increase listening or sales. Having the translator on 98.5 certainly will.

Don't take my leaving Kindred as a comment on that operation. Take it as a comment on my personal desires. Coming back to WKLC was all about bringing me closer to those desires.

Yes. 92.7's original calls was WCAK.
93.7 was originally WCMI-FM. 92.7 was changed to WCMI-FM sometime after Dick Martin bought it in 1983.

So, yes, WCMI-FM is a heritage FM call. They are confusing it with WAMX though for heritage rock calls though, the only other time WCMI-FM was rock was when it was classic rock in the 90's.

Still nice to see the callsign back.

Shortly after Dick Martin Jr bought WCAK from Mike Kilgore, he changed the calls to WKQI. A couple of years later, he changed the call to WCMI-FM. I think because the AM was simulcasting on the weekends, making it a mouthful during breaks. The AM was talk with ABC Talk during the WKQI days. After I moved on to other thing, they went to classic rock as WCMI AM/FM.

While in Detroit on day, I heard the WKQI calls. Blew me away!!

I think I have a decent idea as to what Kindred is going to do with WRVC 930 and the translator.

First off, I discovered that my car radio has AM stereo (which I didn't know that it does!) and that WRVC is now broadcasting in AM stereo (and sounds really good btw, I wish CC would put AM stereo on WIRO and WVHU). A FM simulcast of talk would hardly need stereo.

My guess is they are going to do something akin to what WVRC has done with 680 WKAZ and it's FM translator and do a 50's-60's oldies format. That music is now missing from the Tri State with B-97's morph into a 70's-80's oldies station that barely dabbles in the 60's these days and might represent an opportunity. "WRVC-FM" will be pure fiction, as you can't give a translator a regular callsign (as far as I know) and they removed it from 92.7 to avoid confusion with 930/94.1. ESPN radio I suspect ends up back on 1340 WCMI.

Given that WRVC doesn't really have a heritage going back to the days of AM top 40 and they can't get WSAZ or WGNT, ironically, the better move might have been to move WCMI to 930. Yes, that's blasphemous, but at least you have heritage calls that were on a station that played the music that I believe 930/94.1 will be playing. WKAZ isn't on it's original signal in Charleston these days either. But then again, WRVC is associated with oldies, from the "Oldies 93 RVC" days. I guess they could go with "Oldies 93 and 94 RVC".

You are completely ruling-out the "engineer-was-given-the-tools-so-why-the-hell-not" theory.
I never thought a well-processed, linear, C-QUAM AM Stereo station was given the respect it deserved.
After the re-release of the new Motorola receiver-chips that combated platform-effect, AM Stereo can be made to sound pretty damn good. I have tested several models of HD receivers that have C-QUAM also. It's embedded in the receiver-chip and competely unadvertised. Well, that's a happy-accident too. Talk, music, whatever. Leave that to the wizards in the programming department. The local-origination production and commerical elements should be presented in the best-possible quality. Hell, even the content of the big bands show has quite a bit of stereo source-material. Those old-ass Windchargers still have enought bandwidth to wiggle-audio to two seperate ears.
