Kindred to kill WRVC-FM

If it's about broadcasting, radio, TV, satellite, cable, this is where to talk about it.

Get the WGNT calls back on 930 and I'll build a Statue of Liberty sized monument of you right across the street from the Clear Channel studios on 4th Avenue.

Are you serious? Do you have any idea what that would do to those people going to the Methadone clinic?

"Grrr....brrr...grumble...YOU KIDS GET OFF MY LAWN!"

I'll say it one more time. It was just a change to free-up WRVC-FM for something else. WCMI-FM made sense on 92.7 because it was heritage-calls associated with the station. 92.7/98.5 is, and will continue to be, branded as, "The Planet". You'd be hard-pressed to find the call-letters in any branding of the station whatsoever. It took Reeves a very short-amount of time to change all of the production that had the old calls. About 4 people in our building care or even notice it happened. Four pages of this board discussed it because WCMI spawned WVBROADCASTING.NET's existence. Nothing more.

But what the hell do I know? I'm new to this whole radio-thing anyway.

The call letters WGNT now belong to channel 27, the CW TV station in Norfolk VA. As an aside, WGNT-TV was originally WTOV (which now belong to a TV station in Steubenville OH) and later WYAH-TV when it was owned by Pat Robertson. The WYAH calls now belong to a radio station in Winchester KY. Channel 27 became WGNT in 1989 when Robertson sold the station to the current owners; WGNT stands for Greater Norfolk Television.

So unless WSAZ were to give up their callsign, WRVC is the best you could do?
What is the deal with WRVC-FM? Who wanted that?
I think that I am right about the Dogg going away.
Format change to full service type station in the image of WVOW-FM.

You may need a new career, Cameron. You aren't very good at radio. I mean, you wasted all that time and this board's space for what? A call letter change? Come on!

JB Miller didn't come on here and waste 6 pages of this board's space when WDNQ changed calls to WMGA did he?

Oh.. wait. Maybe he did.

Never mind. Carry on.

From AllAccess.com:

KINDRED Rock WRVC (92.7 THE PLANET)/HUNTINGTON, WV flips its call letters to WCMI in order to free up the call letters for their ESPN AM 930 which will be getting an FM transmitter and already uses the WRVC calls.

Let's just go back to WHO CARES? Will it help the station from a ratings or profit standpoint? I stand behind NO it will not. Someone has an ego that just wants to fan fires that should have burned out long ago. Traffic on this board pays no bills, brings no ratings, and really does not mean much (no offense to anyone - I'm here too).

It is fun and we enjoy the gossip but EVERYONE in this industry better be FAR more worried about their job and the performance, or lack there of, they put forth, or they will suffer a sad fate I don't think too many people wish on anyone!!!

Wow. Four inaccurate statements in one forty-word sentence.
That's only ten words per screw-up.
I didn't know that was possible.

Well, kinda'. Cowering behind a fake name isn't really, "here", is it?

I am sympathetic to your need to complement all on the board in an attempt to stop any more of this foolishness. The structure of the post lacked only a, "c-mon' guys", and a big, "smootch", to try to garner support.

I'll just say that you are four-pages deep into this thread and you still feel compelled to post. Your very participation is propagating exactly what you want to stop.

Now, you know what it's like for me to try to read the newspaper....er, magazine....er, watch TV news....er, uh, just about anything!

Now, ask yourself, "What if there's that level of inaccuracy in every political or economic or historical story I read?"
"I don't know the same things you don't know."

"Yes, you do; you just won't admit it!"

The second administrator this board had was a massive fan, and verbal critic of the removal of the WCMI-FM calls from the Tri-State. That is the driving force behind 90% of the "who cares" aspect of this thread.

We're talking "Rain Man" level of obsessed over it.

Otherwise, it would be a non-event.

Wasn't his second unnatural obsession about WIRO and the potential change to WVIU or something like that?

Wow. Now there's a flashback! Yes ... Mike ~LOVED~ WIRO almost as much as he did WCMI-FM and David Lee Roth. When WVHU started simulcasting on WIRO, I threw a little gasoline on the fire by mentioning that Clear Channel was going to change WIRO's calls to WVIU to match the branding of the Mother Ship in Huntington, so to speak. Mike had a stroke. In any case, it was a total fabrication just intended to give a good natured poke in the ribs. I think there were a couple of eddy currents created by that thread where WTCR-AM was going to become WVAU (for Ashland) or WZZW becoming WVMU (Milton) or something like that. I'm surprised anyone remembered.

What happened to Mike? Anyone know?

The CDBS FM Query has not been updated because it relies on the daily raw CDBS database files.
I'd say it would be correct by tomorrow.

Just pretend the last 14 years didn't happen and a rock station has the heritage WCMI-FM calls again.

Your welcome.
It is a shame that the WCAK calls are taken by the Coast Guard. Now THAT would be heritage.
