what about taking a contactor from the spare transmitter. there was one availbale in the past but it would cost about 5k and could be had locally. the RCA transmitters are all solidstate except for the output tubes. there is a way to switch the generator from 208 to 480 already installed. WOWK was a fine place to work for before Bray

I have a lot of spare G-Line parts, having retired two of them in 2008. (Including contactors, one of which was new and on the parts shelf). I have a 9007 tube that has less than 1000 hours on it... sigh.

Sounds like Bray and the St Journal are going to run WOWK. The St Jour does NO WRONG in his eyes. Bray is already plugged in!

I thought Bray was already the manager at wowk.

Edit:

OK, so Fawcett is general manager.
I would suppose Bray makes every decision he gets near enough to.
The Chesapeake thing just came down Thursday.
What did wowk do to cause legal action?
The move was actually determined months ago.
Nothing like layoffs and management confusion to cause staff chaos.

Lets see if it affects the newscasts.

Couldn't we all just pool a few bucks and buy it? We got March Madness coming up and we can watch all the games, run porn overnight and rotate studio cams from everybody's stations during the day. What do ya think it would take? 50 bucks a piece?

I am waiting for the next cost cutting.
Hubbing the stations in Charleston for all functions.
An instant staff cut of 50-75%.
It could happen.

wchs had teh chesepeak story long before 13 did, you guys can keep making excuses for why 13 is goin down the shitter, but in truth theres nobody to blame but the managers and staff for their own mistakes, they had a very good product on 13 at one time... I hate to see them in this situation but thats what happens when people try to run businesses that they have no reason to even be near..

Just in case the question hasn't been answered yet, John Fawcett has left the WOWK building for good. What a shame. The last buffer between WOWK employees and Bray. The fat lady is about to burst into song folks and that's a real shame. There are some really good people working at WOWK.

I honestly don't know. All I know is that everything seemed business as usual Friday. My guess is that Allen Payne will be next salaried employee to go.

Don't worry. I'm sure Bray won't have any trouble finding another short guy with a Napoleon complex to manage his station. He seems to attract them.

No. That is not going to happen because Bob Toll in Philly has been begging the Republicans and now the Democrats for money to bail out Toll Brothers (McMansion builder), Reedman-Toll (auto dealer) and Philadelphia Newspapers (now in chapter 11 because of a lack of bailout).

It was my understanding that Fawcett was a part owner in the company. He handeled everything going into the internet hook up. When there was a problem with the internet link he was the one that was called. There were a lot of VERY GOOD people who worked for WHTN-WOWK in the past. but it went downhill big time when Bray took over. He cared less for his employes. They were only a number that he wanted to lower. At one time there was a roumor that all the stations were going to be controlled from Huntington. When Reaves and Gateway owned the station it was a GREAT place to work for, But this all changed when Gateway sold. They had a good product and Great people working for them, BUT, all has changed, of all the original employes most have either died or were fired.

John was a good buffer between WOWK employees and Bray. With that buffer gone now, Bray will have free reign to do even more damage.

What happened - did Deanna Stein suffer the wrath of Bray too? (I liked her - very solid, worked hard, and, she had a personality too) I certainly wish her nothing but the best!

What does this mean to Mr. McGahee? - Walk in protest - before you are shoved as a result of piss poor management!!!

Also missing is Craig McKee, who anchored the morning news at one time.
