Would we even know about the Fairness Doctrine if it wasn’t being brought up by the conservative talk shows!!

Some one her said Talk Show host are not reporters. I agree that’s not their job but it is sort of funny that some of the news I here from Rush seems to take a couple days or a week or so to show up on the main stream media.

By the way, during the FD days, I was an engineer at a station in the 60’s that lost both there AM & FM license because of what a talk host said on the air that didn’t please the left. (WXUR Media, PA)

What about the bill that was to come up for a vote yesterday in the senate, I have not heard the results on it, that would force stations to set up committees in the community to see that your station is serving the public needs of the community. Can you image the audience killer for an all music station having to put on say a half hour program in the middle of the day discussing how the local Red Cross group needs your help?

Don’t for get one of the FCC commissioner was proposing that not very long ago with also requiring some one at the station 24/7.

I could agree to the 24/7 idea to a point. Lets face it some stations couldn’t afford it but there are many out there that could. I don’t know how often we have been out traveling and a storm will come up and my wife will say can you tune in a station that will tell us if it is going to turn to ice or are we going to have a tornado, etc. I have to tell her I can’t, every station I know of in our area has no one working on the weekend or in the evening and some even during the daytime week day has no one capable of going on the air.

Just bring the minority tax credit back and you'll see change in minorities owning stations for the better. No one even wants to discuss that (in Congress).

How many on this board would like to own a radio station but can’t afford it? Are minorities any better than you that a company should get a tax credit to sell to a minority at a discount price? I though infirmity action was unconstitional not that counts any more.

WASHINGTON, D.C. (WSAZ) -- The United States Senate voted overwhelmingly Thursday in favor of an amendment that would stop the Federal Communications Commission from reinstating the Fairness Doctrine, a policy that regulated broadcasts for balanced views.

The vote on the DeMint amendment was 87-11. United States Senator Jay Rockefeller (D-WV) was the only local representative to vote against the amendment.

Although the U.S. Senate voted 87-11 to approve an amendment to prevent the FCC from reimposing the so-called Fairness Doctrine, those familiar with the legislative process know that any such legislation still has a long way to go before becoming law. In order for the Broadcaster Freedom Act (BFA) to become law, the Voting Rights Act, to which the amendment was attached, must first pass in the Senate, then the amendment would have to survive the conference process with the U.S. House of Representatives version, something Congressman Greg Walden (R-OR) — who co-authored the Broadcaster Freedom Act in the House — says will be a considerable challenge in the Democrat-controlled chamber. Asked if he believed the BFA would also pass the House as it did the Senate Walden (pictured) replied, “Doubtful. We will try to get an amendment to the same bill, but we think the Speaker [Nancy Pelosi (D-CA] will prohibit all amendments.”
