HETEROsexuality a factor in losing a scholarship?

This is a good place to drop general and weird news, entertainment, and general show prep material that might be interesting to air talent or producers. Hot dog threads ALWAYS welcome.

HETEROsexuality a factor in losing a scholarship?

Post by Force Commander »

A former star basketball player is now suing Central Michigan University, claiming the school's basketball coach benched her and revoked her scholarship because she wore too much make-up and was not a lesbian.

Coach wanted a player that would take it to the hole.

I wonder how long it'll be until a talented caucasian cheerleader sues a college over the (formal or informal) "one of each" policy that many of them have.....

That unofficial 'policy' exists in many larger colleges, especially where scholarships are involved. College cheerleaders are often considered student ambassabors, and athletic departments may turn up the heat on the coach to have a squad that looks "cosmopolitan" and "inclusive" of many races and nationalities. Not unlike most national television and print advertising.

The biggest problem in arguing the case is that larger universities usually have 300+ girls trying out for maybe 20 or 25 positions, with at least half of those (<25) positions unofficially filled by returning cheerleaders. The coach (or judges, depending on how tryouts are held) have a lot of leeway in making selections, not unlike a football or basketball coach putting together his team from an open gym of raw recruits. A stepchild problem involves the selection of male cheerleaders. Most have NO previous experience, since guys cheering in high school is considered "gay". I'm waiting for the day a talented female cheerleader hires an attorney after she got cut (and no college scholarship, et al) but four guys made the team and none of them can dance, cheer, execute the simplest tumbling pass, or toss the most basic co-ed partner stunt.

I thought band scholarships were the only ones where heterosexuality counted against you.
