I've been asked by a friend to come up with a short quiz on the 1960-1989 era of rock music so that she can give it to a co-worker to see how much she REALLY knows about music. I thought I would post it here to see how some of you all fare on it. Keep in mind that SHE WILL NOT BE ABLE TO SEARCH ENGINE ANY ANSWERS...they all have to come out of her head and not from Google. So I take it that you all would do the same, if you decide to test it out.

Anyway, here you go. I used no search engines or websites to come up with the questions, but when it was finished I did verify all the answers. Post your answers afterward, if you so desire:

So far all answers are correct (adding "Superstar" as the other Murray Head hit). I'll let the others rest a bit before I reveal the answers.

I also did a "HARD" test that is a bit more, how would you say, off the wall. I will post it after this one runs it's course. Radio-types may actually do a bit better at it than at this one.

I thought I might have typed it wrong, Bob, so I went back to check my "verification source" and it said 'Kent', so we'll stick with that. Hey, his first name is 'Roland' so either 'Ken' or 'Kent' could be seen as an improvement.

All of your answers were right...except for Bob's shot at question number 1, which I unveil the answer to right here:

Paul Carrack was the answer. He sang "The Living Years" (Mike And The Mechanics), "How Long" (Ace), "I Need You" (Paul Carrack) and...even though it only peaked at #49 Hot 100, it was Top 10 on the Rock chart..."Tempted" by Squeeze.

As for "Girl Of My Dreams", I remember that it was hot when the SkyLab debris falling to Earth was a big story...right around the time of "Children Of The Sun".

"Black Pearl" was by Checkmates LTD. (Featuring Sonny Charles).

Paul Carrack Don't forget "Don't Shed a Tear for Me". That was his biggest solo hit.

"Dawn Of Correction", but "Redemption" is close enough!

Jimmy "Bo" Horne was right and "Dance Across The Floor" is in the Top 10 Disco songs of all-time, if you ask me.

26 miles is right.

"Seasons" and "Which Way" is right for the reasons that you mentioned.

Scott! I'm surprised you didn't know this one!

Tony Burrows was the lead singer for FIVE different groups with Top 40 hits.

1. Love Grows Where My Rosemary Goes - Edison Lighthouse
2. My Baby Loves Lovin' - White Plains
3. Gimme Dat Ding - The Pipkins
4. Beach Baby - First Class
5. United We Stand - Brotherhood of Man

Now, technically, I suppose that, because he had five tunes, that doesn't really answer Question 1, but I suppose it's an interesting fact!

The "Archies" singer you're thinking about is Ron Dante. He was also the voice of the Detergents ("Leader of the Laundromat") and the Cuff Links ("Tracy"). He worked extensively with Don Kirshner (yes, that Don Kirshner) and also, believe it or not, Barry Manilow.)

I knew that whoever sang the first two ("My Baby.." and "Love Grows..") was the same guy, but I did not know the other three!

When I looked him up the thing that I thought was the most amazing fact about him was that he re-formed The FlowerPot Men in Germany in the early 90's! Now if you have never heard The FlowerPot Men, I would advise looking into "A Walk In The Sky". Blows all the other stuff he sang away (except maybe "Beach Baby", which I have always had a strong affection for).

So Diane Renay's doll said "wish you were here".

The Beatles' "Ticket To Ride" was credited as being from the movie "Eight Arms To Hold You" (later re-titled "Help!").

The Monkees only Top 40 hit where they played every note was "The Girl I Knew Somewhere" which, even though it was a flip side ("A Little Bit Me") it got to Number 39.
