"The IN Sound From OUTSIDE"

This is a good place to drop general and weird news, entertainment, and general show prep material that might be interesting to air talent or producers. Hot dog threads ALWAYS welcome.

"The IN Sound From OUTSIDE"

And hey, Conrad, I was wrong. It is The Drifters...

WOW! I haven't seen this clip in ages. Thanks for posting it, Scott!

Now, if you could find the animated one about the weatlhy rancher who had his impoverished neighbor hanged for stealing one of his cows ("String him up. It'll teach him a lesson."). The rancher used to take his workers into church every Sunday because, "It's good for the men. It'll teach 'em a lesson." At the end of the spot, he had a dream that he'd died. As he stood before God, sweating bullets, God said to him: "Forgive him. It'll teach him a lesson."

Now, that would be a find!

(BTW, how could you have been wrong about the Drifters? More odd, how could Conrad have been right...about anything?)

I never had a copy of "On Broadway" by The Drifters in my collection at the time this PSA came out, and since the copy I DID own was by The Dave Clark Five (on their excellent "Return!" LP which also featured stuff like "Can't You See That She's Mine" and "Funny"), I thought it was them.

As for how did Conrad know this? (A). he's been a Presidential candidate and (B). he's older...

As for the "String Him Up" PSA, I've looked for it, to no avail. Everybody I know remembers that one, along with "...here's a little beauty from me to you-ty. Look, it's airplane glue"...

Wasn't that the anti-drug one where the pusher kept getting shot down by a know-it-all kid who, at the end, said something like, "Everything you have there can hurt you, can't it?" To which the pusher replied, "Sure, kid. Why do you think they call it dope?"
As the gathered youths walked away, he then said, "Hey! Where's everybody goin'?"

Yep. That's the one. It and the "String Him Up" ones are the ones that I am really seeking out.

I am rather dismayed at the fact that now that Edna has turned me on to a website that allows you to download video from YouTube to your computer, they have taken off a bunch of stuff that I wanted to grab!! Cannot find these on YouTube any longer:

1. Intro to the 1969 "Hot Wheels" cartoon series
2. Official video for The Flaming Lips' "Fight Test"
3. Well shot live performance of "Midnight Lady" by Mott The Hoople circa 1971

Not to mention just about everything from the SCTV show. Dusty Towne, Liberace's Christmas, The Five Neat Guys, etc...can't find 'em anywhere on there, now!

I've got a copy of the first "Five Neat Guys" spot on one of the two SCTV discs I own. Should I ever have time to compress it, I'll put it on YouTube and let you know.

The only complaint I have regarding ANY DVD sets is the fact that SCTV's full season box sets are WAY overpriced! I would love to have the one Johnny LaRue "movie" where it opens up with a guy strolling down the street, he looks up and sees the sign that says "Appearing Tonight: Paul Revere.......Without The Raiders.......Without Mark Lindsay". And when the camera gets inside there's Joe Flaherty with a suit and white wig on behind a rinky dink keyboard that's about ready to fall down and he's belting out "Kicks"...
