Gas station opening new location.
BARBOURSVILLE -- Sheetz, a family-owned gas station and food stop is expected to open a new store on Mall Road, where a former Exxon station existed.
Construction is expected to begin soon and the store is scheduled to open in May.
Sheetz is based out of Altoona, Pennsylvania.

"It's about damn time."
The location was one of two Exxon stations at the exit owned by Exxon. Exxon decided to pull out of WV and sold a cluster of stations to PPI (Petroleum Products Inc). They tried to operated both but was offered a "huge" price for the property on the mall side and sold it. They held on to the other until the construction company that likes to "develop" the area again offered a "huge" price. Then several deals fell apart for the location that Sheets now owns. The property seems a bit small for Sheetz but it will be a worry for neighbor Little General BP (Beckly Oil)!
disclosure: I worked for a repair contractor that serviced both Exxon and Little General and PPI stations in this state. Including the ones mentioned.

I think contractor Rex Donahue owned the property at one time.

I wouldn't worry about the BP station. I will still catch a lot of the 60 traffic.lastone wrote:The property seems a bit small for Sheetz but it will be a worry for neighbor Little General BP (Beckly Oil)!
Looking at where the construction fences are currently set up, it looks like they bought a portion of the old I64 right-of-way as well, unless coincidentally, they are reconnecting the 20-A exit directly with East Mall Road.
Has anyone heard when the I64 overpass at East Mall Road is slated for upgrade? I wonder if they will finally take out the bottle neck?

Sheetz is far from Wawa in my book.
I have had 2 24oz Wawa coffees this morning. (bouncing off walls between key presses.)

After reading about these two businesses time and again here on WVB.net, I took the opportunity to patronize a Sheetz and a WaWa in the greater Washington DC area last year.

Re: Sheetz Coming To Barboursville
Wawa is a staple of southeastern PA life. I do not miss the convenience of these stores when I am home in KY, but if I am in north Jersey, I go nuts not getting my Wawa Coffee fix. Chock Full O' Nuts is a tad bitter and DD (Dunkin Donuts) slightly acidic and are not comforting like smooth blend of Wawa regular or mocha like 100% Columbian. Wawa Kona is very similar to Starbucks coffee.
I also have to admit that I bring New England Coffee Company Breakfast Blend home with me when in KY. That has been a tradition since 2003 and before I started working in these parts of the universe.
It would be nice to have a Sheetz or a Sheetz MTO in this part of PA. The closest one to me is Morgantown, PA along the turnpike. Great sandwiches.

Re: Sheetz Coming To Barboursville
When I first moved back from NoVA, I went through Sheetz and Wawa DTs as well. I even wrote Sheetz corporate and told them they should expand here. They replied with the basic "company plan" stuff and offered me coupons. I was like, "Why are offering me coupons? I just told you I can no longer access your stores".Hoosier Daddy wrote:After reading about these two businesses time and again here on WVB.net, I took the opportunity to patronize a Sheetz and a WaWa in the greater Washington DC area last year.

Anyway...
There are many parts of the state that are wide open for them to come in like gangbusters. Almost all convenience stores around are hole-in-the-walls that haven't been updated in 30 years.
I've been in Little Generals and left very unimpressed.

Please ! Do not equate Huntington to Barboursville !! We Villagers do not care for Huntington and Cabell county IS trying to force B'ville into "Metro Government".
It's all about the money....Huntington is broke and B'ville has money. Same thing is happening in Charleston....they want Putnam's money.
The only 'growth' area in Cabell Co. is the B'vill area and HADCO (and the others) has nothing to do with it. If you can get a new franchise, the B'vill area (and it's two malls) is the place to start ! (And we'll give you tax breaks if you become part of the "Village Of Barboursville".)
Huntington sucks because of it's own actions over the past 30 years. And they haven't figured out Marshall University costs tax dollars instead of creating them. I could go on but surfice it to say Huntington is run\owned by Bankers, Realitors and Politicians....'nuf said.

Re: Sheetz Coming To Barboursville
Subs??? What the hell is a Su....... ah. never mind. Now I know why they are not in Philly because we only eat hoagies. The menu includes hot and cold subs, deli sandwiches, salads, wraps, burgers and hot dogs, grilled chicken sandwiches, pretzel melts, nachos and fajitas, fries, and chicken strips and breakfast sandwiches.
Any one know if Turkey Hill (yes, they also make the ice cream) has a sandwich station like Sheetz and Wawa?

Re: Sheetz Coming To Barboursville
Based on its location, am I allowed to call the combined-area, "Sheetz and Teetz"?

Just remember, the Teetz is over the Sheetz, not under them.

I have to agree with that description of GoMart as well. The GoMart at 3rd and 6th in St. Albans was always an interesting place.
