If I may speak for the newspaper profession and journalists in general, the reporter was asking the head coach to evaluate the job of his defensive coordinator. The head coach was ducking the question. Was the reporter a jerk? Technically yes, but I'd be a jerk too if my questions were being ducked.

Detroit has three of the top 33 picks in the 2009 Draft and a GM in Martin Mayhew who knows what he's doing (he extracted first-and-third round picks from Dallas for Roy Williams, who the Cowboys might have been able to get without giving up any picks via unrestricted free agency). Take a franchise QB and two blue-chip defensive players and build to win in 2010.

How bad does a team have to be to go totally winless? I mean, wow.

The laws of average say that even bad teams should pick up a few wins during the season. Usually the heavily-favored team underestimates their opponent and doesn't show up mentally, and/or the underdogs just get sick of losing. (see: Redskins @ Bengals). Consequently, there are several big upsets every year.

Despite big ego clashes and rookie coaching, the Redskins still somehow finished 8-8.

But to go completely winless suggests that nothing is firing right, from the GM/owners on down to the players.

Detroit is in hard times all over...
