I still have a pair of those....the earpads have, of course, deflated to the exact shape of my ears and cracked, and, thus, the headphones are worthless to anyone else..... Oh.....and, even this many years later, I have the tell-tale, all-the-way-over-the-top skull indentation to prove past use.....

While we're talking headphones, anybody have a recommendation for moderately-priced, in-ear headphones with a nice, neutral response? (Not with the exaggerated bass response so many seem to think is a plus these days...)

By the way, Lester, I have nothing to recommend to you because everything I've heard over the last few years has had that exaggerated bass....I'm not exactly an audiophile, buuuuut.....

Koss Pro 35As sound even better, IMO. This model is routinely undervalued.

Retail for $39.95 at RS, but goes on sale for $19.95 quite often.

I've had a pair going on 4 years with no troubles. Very durable.

I got a set of Sony MDR-EX32LP/BLK ear buds at Target and they have been great to go with my latest iPod. And I was really hoping Steve Jobs would have improved the earbuds with the last redesign in 2006 but they sound the same.

I'm looking for old school, over the ears, crank the tunes like I used to in the studio headphones. THey'll be plugged into my computer 99.9% of the time.

I mentioned the earbuds (that I use for the iPod), because Arp had asked about a good pair for music player types.

G - When I speak of earbuds, I'm talking about the full ear insert ones, not that shite that Apple sends with the iPods.

Yeah, sorry 'bout that. I just thought I'd ride shotgun.

I just checked the Koss website....they still offer three versions of the 4 (not including the sucky AAAAs, thankfully), a 3 (that I'm not familiar with), and a number of others, including wireless. And replacement earpads for $5.

How come I didn't know this?

Great thread Lester. My Technics from Mac&Dave's finally died after almost three years of loyal service. Bought them in March of 2006 when I got my QBE night gig. I took those cans through some very rough times, from throwing them hard on the counter surface after many bad breaks, riding in my backpack amongst tons of random CDs, notebooks, and paperwork, to the thousands of hours of loud listening. Finally, the left side went out of them, and I can't splice the wire any longer. It really sucks, and laugh if you want to, but those headphones took me to my first full-time radio gig, my first big promotion from nights to afternoons, then to the big move from Charleston to Greensboro...I kinda compare this to losing a best friend...odd, I know.

However, I need to replace these fast, and there isn't a place as cool as Mac & Daves down here to get what I want. I do a lot of shopping for studio gear at Guitar Center simply for convience, but they have a policy that does not allow returns on either microphones or headphones (health code, apparently). I am looking for a set that has the same dynamic responce as the Technics, but has the cups that totally cover the ears...I have had feedback issues with mine because they are not.

Not a big fan of the Sonys that everyone else uses...too much bass.

My last pro-set was of the Sony MDR variation... I loved them, but the foam pads died on me.

As to losing a friend, I still have an old pair of Radio Shack branded KOSS headphones, sitting in the cloth lined box that my MDR's shipped in. Left channel is blown, thanks to one of G105's former night guys... They were the first pair of cans I bought for working in radio, and I still can't bring myself to throw them out.

Sony MDR-V6.

Edit: The only products I currently purchase made by Sony are headphones and earbuds. Nothing else. Not computers, stereos, clock radios, MP3 players, TVs, iPod Docks, etc...

And even earbuds at the high end are sketchy considering that I went throught 4 sets of noise canceling earbuds in a 1 year because the wiring in the ear buds would chafe and short.

I am looking for inexpensive earbuds to replace the iPod nano earbuds I had that literally fell apart from too much use. I might end up going with Zune earbuds (or a similar knockoff) as a replacement...
