How Bad Is the Radio/Tv Biz?

I recently had a friend get laid off from his radio job. How bad is the "industry" hurting and is it solely because of lack of sponsors?

According to the trades, the larger markets are taking some fire while small market radio seems to be doing A-OK. In our case, the only pain we've felt is the reduction of agency business, most notable the Big 3.

Things are equally bad in TV land, too. Layoffs, hiring and spending freezes are common.

By the way, anyone want to buy a used transmitter? How about some waveguide? Heat exhangers? Power supplies?

I have multiple friends who have lost radio jobs in the past year due to widespread budget cuts.

I have multiple friends who have TV news jobs who are very concerned with budget cuts and potential major layoffs in the works.

I try to remember these things after a long day of training in Aflac new associate school. TV and radio can be fun, but there's nothing fun about worrying every day if your job will disappear soon.
