The Post provided a lot of good campaign coverage, but readers have been consistently critical of the lack of probing issues coverage and what they saw as a tilt toward Democrat Barack Obama. My surveys, which ended on Election Day, show that they are right on both counts.

Bill Hamilton, assistant managing editor for politics, said, "There are a lot of things I wish we'd been able to do in covering this campaign, but we had to make choices about what we felt we were uniquely able to provide our audiences both in Washington and on the Web. I don't at all discount the importance of issues, but we had a larger purpose, to convey and explain a campaign that our own David Broder described as the most exciting he has ever covered, a narrative that unfolded until the very end. I think our staff rose to the occasion."

How do you say that without your face turning red from embarrassment, your bowels turning liquid out of horror, and your conscience pronouncing you guilty of malpractice in your profession?? Easy....you're evil.

I can paraphrase and cut a whole bunch of words out of that....

"There's been this story we've wanted to tell before dying and joining our comrades in hell, so we did. Sure, there was much truth we had to hide and fiction we had to invent, but we finally got to do it and, as a bonus, helped turn a free people as much toward communism as they've ever been!"


These kinds of columns should, of course, be archived and brought back up when these same outlets do the same thing three and a half years from now.....

Anybody who halfway paid attention could figure that out... But it's been like this at least since Clinton in 1992.

I still remember watching the RNC on CNN in 1992. I heard the words "harsh, dumb, out of it, out of touch" numerous times through the week... By reporters, no less.

You know, the old trick where you want to say something, but say it putting words in other peoples' mouths so you don't take any heat for it, since you're just "repeating" what you heard?

Actually, it's been going on since Bush '41. They were emboldened by their ability to make Quayle look like an idiot. They tweaked it throughout Clinton and played to great effect on Bush '43 (and McCain/Palin).

So Fox News comes along, whose *NEWS* programming is fair and balanced, they get hung out to dry by the flaming libs that are used to having it their way... and manage to become the #1 cable news network along the way.
