What was going on at John Amos yesterday?

John Amos power plant apparently had a bomb scare yesterday, (or possibly the day before) with temporary stoppage of work, and 'officials' cops, D.E.A.(or some officials) were brought in with dogs....presumably bomb-sniffing animals....but also presumably drug-sniffing. 120-130 vehicles were 'tagged', and reportedly one person seen taken off in handcuffs. Also, from two different sources: They found a guy face down in the toilet with a needle sticking out of him a couple days ago.

That's why I posted it. While on one hand I don't want to get anyone in trouble, I still think it deserves a notice.

By the way, here's a correction: The guy with the needle wasn't face down. He was sitting in a port-a-john and someone opened the door. Rumor is that because there was no search warrant he couldn't be charged. He supposedly narced out a couple buddies for good measure. Also: Two male electricians were recently fired for having sex with each other at Amos apparently.

Local "news" is ignored in this area when it comes to the "big money" companies.

A similar thing happened when constructing the new wing on Cabel Huntington Hospital. A contractor broke a gas main and the new air vents sucked the gas in the building. Paniced patients (some relatives) called outside for help. This paniced everyone . This happened around 10 AM. If the local stations would simply have had a short "breaking news" to say all was well, many people would have been very relieved and not started to the scene. This was not the case.

SAZ was running a "always first with local news" or something like that. However....there was nothing about the problem until a 'blurb' on the noon news.

If you really want to know what's going on in your neighborhood, get a police scanner. All the news rooms have them, but no one hears them. Or one would think from the stories that don't get on the air.

They hear the scanners, they just choose to ignore them unless they hear the words : "fatal, wounded, shots fired..." there's a few i left out but you get the idea. And there are still reporters around, they're just not given the attention or the air time as much anymore.

My son has been working at the plant since early Oct.
He has told me about the bomb threats, have been several. He also told me about the guy in the port-a-john, and the story about the two guys.
Durning his first week there, someone was cutting the hoses coming from the weliding tanks. They now station a guy to watch the tanks and hoses all day long.

A friend of mine who works at Amos confirmed that there were at least two bomb threats last week. He didn't have any info on the other incidents, but said nothing would surprise him.

Rash of bomb threats at plant leave FBI, company searching for culprit


WINFIELD, W.Va. -- A rash of bomb threats have been directed at Appalachian Power's John Amos Power Plant, the company said.

The latest threat was made Monday, said Joe Haynes, the plant's community relations manager.

Dickson said that in a joint effort with AEP, the police went to the power plant last Thursday and swept the parking lots.

"We had 14 canines come in from across the state to sweep the lots with their handlers," he said. "Once the vehicles were identified, AEP personnel had the individuals who owned the cars come out to their vehicle; we explained what was going on. Items ranging from drug paraphernalia to drugs were recovered."

Dickson said that between seven and nine citations were issued. All of the citations were for drugs, he said.

Dickson said one theory is that the individual or individuals making the threats are doing so to avoid being tested for drugs.

"Once they're notified they have to submit to a drug test, they're not allowed to leave," he said. "If their urine is dirty they've got to find a way to get out of there."

Dickson said most of the threats have been written on the walls of portable toilets inside the plant's gates, although one threat was phoned in.
