Radio Station Pulls Ad of Company Helping Married People Cheat

HOUSTON -- A popular Houston radio station has pulled an ad that encourages married people to cheat on their spouses.

The Ashley Madison Agency says Sports Radio 610 has been inundated with complaints from its listeners. People who tuned in to the Texans game on Sunday also ended up learning how to have an affair.

The radio spot boasts, "Ashley Madison is the world's largest dating service of its kind, catering to men and women who are currently in relationships but looking for more."

In a statement emailed to the ad agency, CBS Sports Marketing's Director of Sales says, "I am certain you are all too familiar with the reasons, so I will not waste time listing them for you again. Suffice to say that I am sorry."

But Noel Biderman, the president of AshleyMadison.com, says the company isn't not doing anything illegal.

"There are tons of companies out there promoting alcohol which can literally kill people and the media is taking their advertising," Biderman said.

Ashley Madison boasts more than 2.5 million members. And 175,000 are in Texas.

"Disgusting? No," Houston Psychiatrist Ivan Spector says. "Disheartening? Yes."

The website's president says he's not going to persuade anyone to cheat in 60 seconds. He's just offering what he calls a safe outlet to people who've already made up their minds.

"Are some of our members going to end up leaving their marriage? Biderman says."For sure, but a ton aren't. A ton have decided their marriage works for them on a number of levels."

This is completely a moral call. They're right that they're not doing anything outright illegal, but a social networking site like this is bound to have some controversy. It's also interesting that there are 2.5 million people who can't wait to cheat on their spouse...

Probably a classic case of wrong venue. Nobody would care if these were on a rock or hot talk station, but a daytime NFL game contains a wide cross-section of audience, including those who would be offended at this very ad itself.



But, keeping things in show prep spirit, I wonder how many of the complainers were ugly, ball-busting women who never put out anyway?
