At least West Virginia is not as bad as that Racist Western PA, where all those ignorant Bible-clutching, gun-toting inferiors live. Thank God we'll soon have Obama to spread enlightment (and checks.)

About 60% of the Bush tax break that you'll be giving back, if I don't miss my guess. Unless, of course, you're a Chicago crack whore, in which case it will be all gravy, or at least compensation for your multiple vote. Power to the people. Jay, come to think of it, weren't you a crack whore at one time?

Re: NPR gages presidential race in Logan, W. Va.
I'm having a hard time grasping who gets money back.
The Obama TV commercials say that only the rich received a tax break under Bush.
Obama says households making less than 250k will receive a break under his plan.
I received a tax break under Bush.
My household is under 100k.
So Obama's lying about something... is it the ad, or the plan? Any one of you Obama fans want to explain this to me?

Here's the truth, neither candidate can afford to send anybody checks after this bailout. By the way, everybody, Rockefeller was on board for this bailout, here's our chance to throw this carpetbagger out! Logan County dead voters - I'm talking to you.

What the hell am I now that I spend more time on the wrong side of the Mason Dixon (by about 30 miles).
FWIW: I was deemed a "racist" because I am not going to vote in the presidential election this year by my co-workers. What they do not understand is I cannot vote for a liberal republican douche or a conservative democrat with questionable political ties to extreme groups in our country's past. This has nothing to do with race. I would refrain from voting if both candidates were martians.

Really easy --- nobody!Lester wrote:I'm having a hard time grasping who gets money back.
Since Kennedy, there is no such thing as a Democrat who "promised" a tax cut that actually did it.
Arp’s Law – The foundation of liberalism is the lie, and the very nature of its practice is deception.
Of course....every taxpayer did!The Obama TV commercials say that only the rich received a tax break under Bush.
Obama says households making less than 250k will receive a break under his plan.
I received a tax break under Bush.
It's both, of course! So Obama's lying about something... is it the ad, or the plan?
Arp’s Corollary – Liberals cannot not lie!
So why keep doing it? Easy -- no liberal survives if the truth of "lower taxes result in not only in personal and economic freedom for the individual and the organizations they choose to form but also in greater revenue to the treasury due to the increased taxable economic activity that occurs as a result" becomes a truly known and settled matter...if the seeming paradoxes between micro- and macroeconomics become understood by all. If a liberal can't survive that, then the way forward is the way of one of their master strategists of the past....
"If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it. The lie can be maintained only for such time as the State can shield the people from the political, economic, and/or military consequences of the lie. It thus becomes vitally important for the State to use all of is powers to repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and, thus, by extension, the truth is the greatest enemy of the State." -- Former German National Socialist Workers Party Minister of Propaganda Josef Goebbels, emphasis added.
(And here's a very interesting question for some: isn't it fascinating what happens when you capitalize the "t" in "truth?")
If you want to see what happens when a Democrat tells the truth, watch (online) NY Governor David Patterson in the 8am hour (first 15 minutes, especially) of this morning's "CNBC Squawk Box." At one point, when a surprised CNBC anchor says something like "how is it that, when it comes to your state, it sounds like you govern exactly like a Republican, but, at the national level, you want to govern as a Democrat," Patterson, after a nervous or uncomfortable pause, replies, "I have multiple personalities?"
As to the "95%" number, only about 55% pay taxes, making "95%" an impossibility. What that really means is that, if the "plan" would even be enacted (wink wink), 45% of all Americans would be instantly turned into welfare recipients looking forward to gubmint check day.
"I don't know the same things you don't know."
"Yes, you do; you just won't admit it!"
"Yeeee...it looks like a 'Belt Buckle & Ball Cap' convention in here......"

Is there anyone out there who really believes Obama has any intention of doing what he's been saying, rather than doing all the things we fear, questions of which he always obliquely deflects? Does anybody who saw Obama asking the crowd if they ever heard of plumbers making $250k not think Obama's a lying sack of leftist-socialist shit?
Jeepy, I must take exception to your comment about McCain. I'm not crazy about him either, but a man who's done as much for his country as McCain has does not need to have that word applied to him. Irregardless of his politics past, present, or future, I would be damned proud to shake McCain's hand.

Re: NPR gages presidential race in Logan, W. Va.
Everyone laughed at my idea in 2004.
Let's put Kerry in, set him up as a one-term lame duck. Blame him for everything that goes wrong. Republicans regroup and find top-notch candidates (definitely NOT McCain/Palin) to take back the WH in 2008.
If you think the seeds of the economic crisis was sewn before 2004, then this would've happed under Kerry's watch, anyway. Along with many other things.
If W. was a one-termer, he would have pure 9/11 legacy. The stuff former presidents dream of. But because of second term events, history will judge him very harshly.
Fast forward 4 years. Considering what we have to go through now, it seems more plausible. I would've much rather gotten this over with already...
We're going to have many perfect storms over the next four years. Many of these will be beyond either candidate's reach. Whoever is elected will immediately be in over their heads. Even W. is right now.
As an independent voter, I am stuck with a dilemma: voting for a hothead who can't get along with anybody and refuses to learn new tricks, along with a ditzy hockey mom who has no idea what she's saying... Or, two protectionist nutjobs who "progressively" want to take our economy back 40 years, along with a Marxist congress who will likely try to bring back the "Fairness" Doctrine, in an attempt to re-create a "permanent Congressional rule".
Choices, choices. *sigh*
I think an Obama presidency along with a dem super-majority will be the best thing to ever happen to republicans, long-term. I also think he's the better choice, because he's more flexible, psychologically. That's probably the better trait to have in trying times such as these. W's bull-headedness has proven an epic fail in many cases. Esp in diplomacy.
Again, think long-term. There is no way the American people will put up with unbridled leftist shenanigans, esp on social issues. Remember 92-94.
I'll leave it at that. But either way, get ready for the pain.

I disagree on the "diplomacy" issue with Bush. Start looking around, many of the worlds leaders like the guy... a LOT. It's only the media that is judging him harshly in the diplomacy department. They tried to "Dan Qayle" a president. They're doing the same with Palin.

She will be a senator quicker than that.
When the old guy now on trial is convicted and resigns, she will appoint herself senator.

Yes. Plus I really dislike his stance with the elimination of secret ballots in union elections. If he is in the pockets of thugs that run the union's, then what other kind of thug is paying him to make decisions in their favor????Jet Black wrote:Is there anyone out there who really believes Obama has any intention of doing what he's been saying, rather than doing all the things we fear, questions of which he always obliquely deflects? I would be proud to shake McCain's hand for his service as a maverick in the political machine. For being a patriot during a time when patriotism was out of vogue. For being injured in conflict and not using that as a crutch when running for office.Jet Black wrote:Jeepy, I must take exception to your comment about McCain. He is still a douche for supporting socialistic cap and trade policies as a energy policy which will do nothing but cripple an already hampered economy. Even worse, this will decimate the economy of southwest PA, WV, eastern KY, and southeastern OH. And I am not counting Powder River Basin and Utah. Plus, all of that Lignite (burnable dirt) will be hurt even worse. Yes, I am basing my non-support for candidate on his lack of support for coal and other carbon based industries. Why??? Because I long for a day when I can return home and work in a job not related to health care or government.
And I turned down an invitation today to have a seat in the stands during McCains rally outside of Philly tomorrow morning as a partner company of my employer. This means that in the last ten days, I have turned down opportunities to not appear at either of candidates rally because I am not in favor of either of their plans for office.
Peace!

According to fivethirtyeight.com, odds at this point are West Virginia likely going for McCain with a projection of McCain 51.6% to Obama 46%.

Sarah Palin will be a Senator in the same way Britney Spears became a famous singer.Lester wrote:You'll see what Alaska thinks of her when she's a senator in the next 4-6 years.
She's dumber than a rock. She's a complete tool of her GOP puppet masters.
But she's smokin' hot, and that'll get some votes.
With that being said, John McCain just made Sarah's life by choosing her as a VP running mate.
Without the exposure, she'd just be another flash-in-the-pan state politician,
like the House of Delegates rep from Gilmer County,
the Mayor of Bluefield,
Or Gaston Caperton.
Now, with several national speeches carried on every network,
face time in every newspaper, news website, and news magazine,
her own (Tina Fey) impersonation (and cameo appearance) on Saturday Night Live,
she's set for a life of Celebrity.
In a way, you gotta admire it when someone's ship comes in.

Re: NPR gages presidential race in Logan, W. Va.
How can you really believe that? She's come up through the ranks, fighting people like you all the way, who wanted to dismiss her because she didn't meet their personal preconceptions. What does Obama have that Palin doesn't? He's got no experience to speak of, what he does have is all raising taxes, lining up pork to the tune of a million bucks for every day he's been in the Senate, and failing to take a stand on any important vote. I believe in the citizen-representative. I don't believe in the Rockefellerish ruling class that Obama has aspired to since day 1. I like people who become politicians AFTER they've done something else with their lives, rather than people who have come out of undergraduate school with a burning desire to rule. I am getting really disgusted with all the spurious attacks on Palin. The Democratic Hate Machine can't find anything bad on her, so they/you are desperately trying to cast her as some kind of Valley Girl, just like they have tried to cast Joe the Plumber as some kind of shady character becasue he dared ask the Great Obama a question that displeased the DHM, a question Obama didn't have a slick answer for. Well, I ain't buying it. Yeah, If McCain loses, and he probably will, I'll be looking to see Palin as the next Alaskan Senator, and I hope she'll come in swinging at the bad plans of Leftist-Socialists in power, and cause the Obama-Pelosie-Frank-Schumer greed-and-power trust a damned big bunch of grief.Sarah Palin will be a Senator in the same way Britney Spears became a famous singer.
