IRONTON — Two sheriff’s deputies were injured and shots were fired after a domestic violence call north of Ironton.
The Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office will not release the suspect’s condition. Dispatchers would not confirm nor deny a broadcast report the man had died.
Sheriff’s deputies received word of the domestic violence incident at 11:58 p.m. Sunday. They were told of a man creating a violent disturbance on County Road 119, also known as Ben Howell Road.
Deputies responded, and gunshots were fired.
The injured deputies were taken to a local hospital. Their conditions were not released.
Sheriff Tim Sexton is preparing a further press release regarding the incident.

Re: It's Kinda' Lawrence County...
The cops get called to a domestic dispute, one of the most dangerous calls a police officer can respond to.
The deputies are attacked by a knife-wielding man.
A non lethal use of force was initially used but the man kept stabbing at them.
Deputies shot and killed him.
What's "Kinda Lawrence County" about that?
I guess I don't understand.
I would have shot him as soon as he didn't drop the knife.

IRONTON —
One man died and two Lawrence County sheriff’s deputies were injured Monday in an early morning incident that followed a domestic violence call north of Ironton.
Alfred Robinson, 30, of Ironton was pronounced dead at the scene, according to a press release issued by Sheriff Tim Sexton.
The sheriff said his deputies fired weapons at Robinson after he stabbed the officers and non-fatal solutions failed.
The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation and Identification is investigating.
“At this point there is nothing to suggest the officers strayed from their job expectations or the policy of the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office,” Sexton said in a prepared release. He said the state-level investigation will provide an impartial and independent review of the incident.
The injured deputies, Jamie Pruitt and Brian Chaffins, were transported to an area hospital. Pruitt received a stab wound to his leg, while Chaffins received two stab wounds to his lower back.
Sheriff’s deputies received the domestic violence call at 11:58 p.m. Sunday. Sexton said two callers described the incident at the 185 Township Road 119 residence. One caller said a man was fighting with his girlfriend
Sexton said Robinson lived at the residence. The route also is known as Ben Howell Road.
The man immediately assaulted law enforcement when the first deputy arrived. Sexton’s release states the man ran toward the cruiser and started assaulting the deputy through an open window. The deputy was stabbed in the leg.
A deputy who was just ending his shift at midnight was the first to provide backup at the scene. Sexton said the law enforcement duo followed the man when they witnessed him flee toward a residence. They heard yelling and screaming.
The man, who was still armed with a knife, confronted the deputies when they approached the residence. They approached the front porch, and the man responded with an aggressive step toward the deputies.
The deputies responded with a stun gun, but the attempt failed to slow the man’s aggression. The second deputy was stabbed, and both deputies responded with gunfire.
The responding deputies found a vehicle with its windows busted. That matched initial information received by dispatchers.

In answer to your query, from my point of view, I find this statement.... chilling....
"The Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office will not release the suspect’s condition."

It is not up to the Sheriffs office to release the condition of the suspect.
It is up to the Hospital.
They won't do it 'cause it is against the law.

OK then...
Why was there not confirmation that the suspect had been shot? Condition? Fine. SHot? That needed to be released.

From Cameron's point of view, "kinda Lawrence County" is where words like, "Detroit", "drugs," "shot", "Huntington", and "Felinton" are omitted from a news piece.

Well, the disgrace said that the"deputies fired weapons" at the deceased.
I rather thought that they shot him instead of beating him to death with a shovel.

My guess is that the initial investigation was still underway and the Sheriff wasn't comfortable releasing any information other than what was already known. Can't trust those News people with their incessant need to be first rather than correct.Lester wrote:OK then...

I'm with Hoosier Daddy, I would have started shooting when I saw the knife.
I might still be shooting now.

Haven't I heard that a non-natural-cause death outside of a hospital has to have some big level of investigation, and, thus, everything possible is done to "pronounce" at the hospital so that overkill-ish investigation can be avoided?

Re: It's Kinda' Lawrence County...
The Coroner's office almost always sends an investigator to any out-of-hospital death even if the cause of death is natural. There are a few exceptions, like in the case of Hospice patients where extensive medical records and a Physician's report already exist that attest to the terminal illness. An exception to the exception will occur if, in the case of a Hospice patient, it appears that someone tried to hasten the patient's death by poisoning, injury, suffocation, gunshot, etc. Law enforcement is almost always sent to take a report on every out-of-hospital death.Arp2 wrote:People, help me out, here..... A police shooting is an entirely different animal. There are significant medical and legal concerns with the Ultimate Use of Force by the cops, and police administrators are correct in conducting both an in house investigation and calling in a separate outside agency, such as Ohio BCI&I. There will ALWAYS be a large-scale investigation of a police shooting, regardless of how the shootee fares. The officers will be suspended pending the outcome of the investigation and most likely will face a Grand Jury for their actions but will probably be cleared of any charges in this particular case. A civil lawsuit against the county, the Sheriff, and the individual deputies for "deprivation of Civil Rights" will probably be filed by money-grubbing family members or the girlfriend who was being beaten and terrorized. If the cops did the right thing, the suit will probably go away or be an insurance company settlement.
EMS normally transports anyone who is viable. Even in questionable cases, the paramedics will err on the side of an aggressive resuscitation and transport to the hospital. In a police shooting, it will be important to establish the cops did everything possible to save the guy they were forced to shoot that just tried to kill them. Since EMS didn't transport and called him DOA at the scene, this tells me that significant trauma incompatible with life occured, like a couple of well placed head shots with brains splattered on the wall or bullet holes in the chest and the body laying in several quarts of blood when the medics got there. Most police shootings take place at a distance of less than 5 feet. Those 9 mm. Glocks cause impressive damage at close range.
Hope this helps.
