Shoestring (Attn: Country DJs)

This is a good place to drop general and weird news, entertainment, and general show prep material that might be interesting to air talent or producers. Hot dog threads ALWAYS welcome.

Shoestring (Attn: Country DJs)

Post by Jet Black »

I can never find a reference to a song that Lou Dawbins played the heck out of on WKKW Clarksburg back in 1985-6. I think it was called Shoestring and it sticks in my mind that by Mel McDaniel (sp?) I can't find anything about it. This ring any bells with anyone?

Shoestring, You Ain't Got No Money
Shoestring, You Cain't Hang 'Round Here
Shoestring, You've Got Your Hat On Back'ards
He Knows More Than Most Folks Do,
But Won't Talk Unless You Ask HIm To.
God Bless Us, Every One.

I remember playing it back in the 80's, and it was indeed Mel McDaniels. I have no idea where you could get a copy of it now, unless BigDawg and company still have the 45 or cart somewhere. Not likely.

It really is a pity, almost everything in Country & Western has no back-catalog. I buy a lot from CDUniverse (highly recommended, by the way,) and I've looked up lots of Country albums I remember from the 80's that are simply not listed. No call for it, I guess. Rock and roll is different, but I've noticed a helluva lot of rock back-catalog going out of print lately. The day of recorded media is over, at leasst for the time being. If you want special CD from way back, better buy it now, or put your trust in eBay.

You might, might find it on a P2P server. Or bit torrent.

Course I'm not saying that you should go that route.

...or, of course, there are the various digital stores....getcherself an MP3.....

(Years ago, I searched and searched for a CD from a band in my favorite genre...it featured a a release that had really perfected that 80s sound in a genre that wasn't that big of a deal in the 80s....unfortunately, this was in the 90s! Mid-charter, at best, but I liked it a whole lot. I finally found it online [when online was still relatively new] at a rare music store in Canada and had it shipped....after a lot of time and effort, I finally had my very own copy of this extremely rare CD! I owned a rare CD! And, then, a few months ago, I discovered it's now available on most digital stores....that one-hit-wonder semi-hit single can now be all yours for 79 cents.... )

Oh....if you're goin' lookin' for it, I believe it's just "Mel McDaniel"....no "s" on it......I think.......
"I don't know the same things you don't know."

"Yes, you do; you just won't admit it!"

"Yeeee...it looks like a 'Belt Buckle & Ball Cap' convention in here......"
