Re: Mortenson Huntington Call Letter Change
Anybody know the reason for the change?
RWB? RCB for Robert C Byrd seems better suited for the area.

Rumor has it that they are changing format to something "patriotic." I don't know exactly what that means, but that's what I've heard from one of my sources.

Re: Mortenson Huntington Call Letter Change
Will the new 1200 kc. allocation replace 1470, or will it be a new signal added to the market?
RF power on 1200? Format?
If 1470 stays, what will become of it?
Will 1200 use 1470's West Huntington tower site, or will they locate elsewhere?
I must have slept through this one ...

Thanks, Dave. Some good info there.
What happens to 1470 now? Can someone else in Huntington apply for it?

Virtually all recent AM apps have pretty thorough engineering documents. There's a couple of operators that post the bare minimum "It should fit, I swear" documentation, though.
If the window's open, anyone could apply for 1470, or any other "open" frequency. The trick is to find something useful that meets the current protection standards. That's unlikely, as the auction 84 process has probably squeezed all the tasty juice out of the band.

No new daytimers, though. And a new station app. must await another window.
Someone might be able to use 1470's demise to improve facilities, though. That would be a minor change.

Here's an interesting note from this morning's Tom Taylor newsletter, which has an ad from John Pierce & Company noting a few of its recent transactions, including:
"CLOSED: AM 1450 – Charleston, WV"
No further details were given, but it's another piece of the puzzle with WRWB. And yes, I know the station is licensed to Huntington and not Charleston, but that's what the ad said...

Not really. 1450 is a new 1kw to be triplexed into the Bristol array in Charleston. St. Paul is a non-profit that has the intent, I believe, to bring Catholic programming to the Kanawha Valley.
I think you'll hear Southern X commercials on a Mortenson station before you'd hear Catholic programming.

Amended application filed by RAMS I, which filed a number of applications in Auction 84.
