In a pretty cool move last night, DirecTV put WDSU 6 (NBC) from New Orleans on nationwide on channel 361. The coverage there, along with WWL-TV online (and 870 WWL both via nighttime DX and the internet) has been strong.

If there would have come a time that I could have gotten the locals from as many other markets as I might choose, I'd have been on DirecTV the next day or week.


(And, as I've said before, somebody's going to have to explain to me why local TV stations get protection on satellite and cable while local radio stations get zip...... )

Same here. It would be worth the premium for Comcast high speed internet to have TV from any local market that I would want to watch. I could DVR Local news for New York on one box while watching Charleston/Huntington on another box. Brilliant!

Protection from what, exactly?

There's a million ways to get music these days. But there's only one way to get network TV.

Most people don't care about how they get network TV, as long as they get it. But mandating that various Sirius/XM or Music Choice channels be blocked according to zipcode won't win radio any friends... And of course, there's still iPods/iPhones.

Besides that, I totally agree. Get rid of all the anti-competitive laws.

Oh, just the same thing TV gets -- protection from outside networks (formats) and programs (songs).

And, yes, it's only fair that we be able to block any song that we play because, at great expense to us, it's already being made available in the market. Fair is fair.

Exactly. Therefore, we need gov'ment laws to get us back to being the only way to get popular/known music. (We'll allow other delivery methods for all the unknown amateur crap.) That's what TV has, so we should, too.

We'll have to treat all music devices the same way illegal cards that open up sat receivers get treated -- confiscation. Immediately followed by prosecution of the individual bearing it and the person selling it, of course.

Friends? TV doesn't care about "friends," so I don't, either.....I just want the same (near) monopoly on the audience and the financial protection of my asset.
