Do people in Hurricane areas buy plywood EACH time there is a storm?
I mean, it looks to me like you could re-use the plywood several times
before you need more. Also, It looks like the people in these areas have made no effort to provide
secure mounting points around windows and doors for the plywood.
They just screw the sheets of plywood to the door and window facings
and that is that. Secure mounting points and possibly some two by four
boards over the plywood could prevent a lot of damage.

It's a lot like everything else -- dumb people do the dumb thing over and over while smart people do the smart thing once and then make adjustments as needed.


However, by today's standards, no one was particularly smart when many of these houses were originally built.

My friends in Houston all have wood window covers for their glass that they simply screw in with anchor bolts. One guy has bolts in his house with protuding studs that allow a wing nut to secure the reinforced engineered wood panels. The other guy uses lead taps that he screws a bolt into through pre-drilled holes in his reinforced enginneered panels.

I prefer the first guys system although he has the studs protruding from his house all year long because he can cover his windows in about 1 hour. The second guy has never had to replace the lead anchors in the house in the 8 years I have known him so I guess that system is as effective but it takes closer to 2 hours for him to perform the same job.

One of my ex's parents live in Florida, and they have permanent anchors. I think they can have the place closed up in between an hour and two hours. Batten down the hatches and then bust ass out of town.
