Pruett indirectly involved in academic fraud?!?

Court documents filed Friday portray former Marshall coach Bobby Pruett as having direct involvement in academic fraud and overpayment of athletes working while at the school.

Affidavits filed as part of an ongoing lawsuit by former Marshall compliance director David Ripdath tie Pruett to violations that Marshall was penalized for in 2001. Pruett was not named in the original NCAA infractions report.

Is anyone really surprised? I mean, look at when he retired... not only was the cupboard bare, but the problems were on the rise.

And what does the tired coach do... pulls a Brett Favre, rests up, and goes to UVA.

There's always a problem when the top guy bails from a seemingly successful program while the fire is still hot, so to speak. Marshall was still doing very well when Pruett resigned, and the reasons he gave at the time for leaving Marshall never washed with me. In a way, I'm not surprised, because the bulk of his football program was built by recruiting inner city hoods and thugs that got booted from bigger colleges. These players wouldn't have looked at Marshall if they hadn't already washed up somewhere else. My father and stepmother were huge Marshall fans and proud alumni members who totally believed in and supported Bobby Pruett and all his accomplishments. They donated to Marshall Athletics and attended every game they could. Those loyal fans are the ones that will hurt the most if these charges are proven true.
