Since You Brought Up "The Mind Garage"...

First off, let's get a few things straight here:

The Mind Garage ripped their "Electric Liturgy" off of The Electric Prunes (Jim Stallings' favorite band) 1968 LP "Mass In F Minor"...



That came out a year ahead of The Mind Garage's "Again" Lp, which contained the "Electric Liturgy".

Secondly, Contemporary Christian Music is usually made by CHRISTIANS. No where in the Bible is there any reference to a "litrugy". So what does that mean? A liturgy is a manmade, religious performance. Not from a thankful heart, but from a book. Not from God's Word, but from man's words. A liturgy is described in the dictionary as:

1. a form of public worship; ritual. (a relationship with Jesus Christ is not based on any form or, especially, ritual...that is RELIGION, not relationship)
2. a collection of formularies for public worship (Christians are lead in worship by the Holy Ghost, not a "collection of formularies")
3. a particular arrangement of services (Christians that are lead of the Holy Ghost have no need for 'hymn numbers on the wall')

As you will also note in the video and the song, the following elements:

1. Nudity (Matthew 5:28 says that "anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart.")
2. Complaining about being "taken" by a contract/manager (a Christian would probably be either lead of the Holy Ghost NOT to get into a written covenant with someone who was going to 'rip them off', and if they did they would be totally forgiving of them...not dredging it back up decades later)
3. Jews and Atheists welcome to partake in the "Liturgy" (both do not acknowledge Jesus as Messiah, so thus both are not Christians)
4. I think one of the Ten Commandments comes in to play regarding the fact that The Electric Prunes did theirs first.

The bottom line is this:

The Mind Garage were the greatest band to ever come out of West Virginia.

Their legacy ended in 1970.

They do not belong in the "Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame".

I feel sorry for them...in both the way that their "career" has gone the last couple of years and that they obviously think a form of "religion" is going to get you in proper standing with God, when only a "relationship" with Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior will do that.

Let me get a few other things straight.

Maybe you missed the one line in my other post.

The song was put together as a parody, but who knows?

I was believe it or not just a young buck, at the time "Mind Gargage", were recording on RCA.
When there music came back to me from a cousin who thought they were a fantastic group, and getting to talk with Larry when they were putting together the festival in West Virginia last year.
What I thought was neat was some 44 years later I remembered a couple of songs recorded on RCA, and how much I liked them back then, when I knew very little about music.
(Still not the best there is when it comes to remembering details on groups.)

The songs I remember were before the reach into the religion realm of the group.

I don't think even Larry, (think they have a chance in where you think they maybe heading), on getting put in the Rock & Roll hall of fame. However who am I to judge their place in the Rock and Roll hall of fame or the here after.

The video you presented several months ago had a was one of the best things I think I had seen, in spreading the gospel.

The post was just presented as something ...... West Virginia related, something dealing with radio of years past, and something that I ejoyed years ago for a breif time.

Just as relationship is not in the Bible, the foundation that supports the word is. Just like the words trinity or rapture. They are not in there, either, but the premises of each is clearly outlined. Only one way to Heaven: Jesus. By no other way will a man be forgiven and given eternal life in Heaven and not hell. Not of works, not of Buddah, not of Mohammad, not of any other proclaimed diety. It's Jesus. And it's a relationship. Just remember: religion killed Jesus, relationship with Him gives us life.

The bottom line is: God's right, we're wrong, and not enough of us are willing to admit it...

By the same token no man's heart is so truly contrite that he can pass judgement on others. I don't think it's nessessary to put down those who might approach worship through something like a hymn book as a lesser Christian that however you might do it. Not arguing, a few words words in your first post just rubbed me the wrong way.

Normal Dairy Queen Hot Dogs aren't much to write home about.

And, while we're on the subject, my visit to Hinton was a disappointment.

I really thought there'd be ... uh ... more there.

It's just all those tourism magazines make Hinton sound like it's some kind of destination.

It was more like an afternoon in Montgomery or Nitro or Weston.

b. I actually shuddered when I read your statement!

I could fill a whole thread about my 1975 season playing Babe Ruth League baseball in Weston. The "home" field for our team was the field at Weston State Hospital (while still in use, I might add...that's where all the good stories come from!).

The closest thing I can relate to what you are talking about is the second day of deer season in November of 1982. Me and a buddy spent the latter half of the morning in Buckhannon. We started at 10:17am going by the bank clock and did absolutely everything there was to do on Main Street from the courthouse down to Shannon's Hardware and back. We figured we had killed a good hour to an hour and a half. Got back up to the bank and realized it was 10:37am.

Longest twenty minutes in the world. We still refer to it as "The Morning Time Stood Still".

PS: Edna just stopped by. She said to "tell those radio guys 'hi'!"

PSS: We are taking the new Nikon D60 with us to Pittsburgh on Saturday, so that could end up in some new photos for here...

I had no sentimental attachment to Weston. We just drove through there on the way to Morgantown and western Maryland. I looked around the town because that little AM station has been for sale forever on buysellradio.com, and I always wondered if an old radio guy could make himself some spending money by purchasing that little piece of electromagnetic spectrum. The current owner wants almost $300,000 for it as it stands, and the price seemed a little too high for the area and the potential advertiser base.

In any case, Weston seemed like a typical small city in rural West Virginia: not much in the way of a thriving business district, a lot of older, well worn structures that had seen better days, and just not much happening there. Not an insult at all. Just my perception. If you grew up in Weston and had an emotional bond, I can understand how you'd see it all differently.
