I guess between this and the proposed taxes on the tickets, Cedar Fair is not going to have a hard time coming up with a reason to close the park.
Really Sad.

The park is only in this for the 'willing and cheap' labor. Like many American companies (sadly), if they could get by with bussing illegal Mexicans across the border, they would.

My first impression exactly. Kings Island doesn't and never did give a damn about these kids and their naive desire to see and experience America while working and paying their own way. "Willing and cheap labor" is the perfect definition. Another would be "exploitation". Right now, KI will do what's necessary to control the spin and save their own asses from bad PR and nothing more.lastone wrote:The park is only in this for the 'willing and cheap' labor. Sadly, people have got used to being over-promised and under-delivered. But this is outright deception.

I think the whole broadcast industry is infatuated with an automaton-style business model, where every radio and TV station is daisy-chained into another and every function from engineering to programming is handled by a vault of hard drives somewhere. A dozen human beings, all rightfully terrified of losing their jobs because the company plans on cutting 12 to 6 next quarter if profits aren't what the shareholders want to see, frantically works to control and monitor the broadcast facilities and the airwaves in thousands of cities and towns across America.genlock wrote:Meanwhile, Clear Channel ... boards are meeting in emergency sessions.

Once again, you guys bring the paradigm of the region and the unions who benefit from the brainwashing and probably your own biographies to the news and wind up showing cluelessness.Hoosier Daddy wrote:My first impression exactly. Please look at a map of the region and locate Kings Island. Now, look to the west and south. That's a lot of the money of the Cincinnati region. West to 75...that's the newest and youngest affluent. South almost all the way to the river...that's the old money and the older of the new money. Next, look north-northeast toward Lebanon. That's the people who used to live "way far out" of Cincinnati but are now surrounded by high-earning couples, one half of which works in Cincy while the other works somewhere else, maybe as far away as Columbus. Finally, look toward the east. Those are small towns that enjoyed their best times back around WWII and thereafter; they offer little in terms of population and/or quality of population.
The point -- the potential amusement park employees living near the park aren't, for the most part, potential amusement park employees. Many of the ones from the south, west, and north may or may not need the work, and they're likely to be being much more strategic in their summertime employment. The ones from the east...well, you're likely to find a bunch of "work ethic" and other issues.
So, just like seasonal parks all around the country, Kings Island, once having the more-coveted jobs for youth, must recruit and recruit regionally, and, in this case, "regionally" includes Columbus and Lexington and Dayton and Richmond and everywhere that falls into that the rough circle. And, just like seasonal parks all around the country, so desperate for workers is the park that transportation is provided for those from surprising distances away, not just internationals a few miles away. As a matter of fact, if you check the website, you'll see that dozens -- if not hundreds -- of job openings still exist for this year!
It's not about "cheap labor," as you folks have been taught to regurgitate (God help you if you're actually believing it and not just regurgitating it on cue); it's about getting any labor that will do the work properly and reliably at a cost that allows the park to operate at the price customers will pay.
If Kings Island did this to these kids intentionally, then nail them and their reputation all you want. Forget about, however, the election-year, neo-Communist "cheap labor" rhetoric....they just want to be able to open the gates and doors every morning and not go broke doing it. Cedar Fair seems to be managing that, having lost "only" 40% of its value in the last couple of years while competitor Six Flags has fallen all the way down to being a $1 stock after losing 90% of its value.
You guys have yet to realize that that whole "workers of the world unite" crap benefited and enriched only the leaders who spouted it....
"I don't know the same things you don't know."
"Yes, you do; you just won't admit it!"
"Yeeee...it looks like a 'Belt Buckle & Ball Cap' convention in here......"

I see Bill O' Reilly woke from the dead ...

All I'm asking, Mr. Protect Corporate America at all Costs, is that Kings Island be honest about the terms and conditions of the employment they're offering a bunch of college kids from other countries.
Do the right thing.
Be honest.
Why can't the CEOs and managers and boardroom tycoons wrap their minds around and live by those simple concepts?

My employer's CEO is very honest when she says that labor in China is too expensive to make the product that fills our stores. So we go to place with even more slave like conditions.Hoosier Daddy wrote:

I think Libya is still sanctioned so that is not good. Chad has a tendency to erupt in civil war. Myanmar/Burma is good. And don't forget Vietnam.Dr. Whiplash wrote:Myanmar/Burma? Libya? Chad?cgarison wrote:
