Sixteen hurt at French army show

TOULOUSE, France (Reuters) - Sixteen people including four children were wounded after a soldier fired live ammunition during a military show in the southern French town of Carcassonne, a local official said on Sunday.

The accident occurred during a combat demonstration by the Third Marine Parachute regiment in which a soldier used live ammunition instead of blanks, said Bernard Lemaire, the prefect of the southwestern region of L'Aude.

Lemaire said the soldier had been detained in custody but that did not mean that the possibility of an accident had been ruled out.

President Nicolas Sarkozy issued a statement expressing "horror and profound emotion" and saying he was awaiting the results of an inquiry to draw "exemplary" consequences as soon as possible.

Please note, the French have done a great job at defending their nation from terrorism by vowing to retaliate against the countries harboring terrorist with nuclear weapons. Mutually assured destruction is always the best deterrent. Sad part is with French military savvy, that means they going to bomb all those British and American troops in Afghanistan and Iraq as well.

The French are kinda like the Isreali's but without cool war toys like the Desert Eagle. Hell, Former Navy Seals and other Special Ops soldiers have struggled with French Foreign Legion training in Tunisia.
