Borek Escapes!
From Hearald-Leader:
A West Virginia meteorologist will replace WKYT-27 morning and noon weatherman Chris Bailey.
WKYT, Lexington's CBS affiliate, announced on Tuesday that Todd Borek of WSAZ in the Huntington and Charleston markets will debut July 3.
WKYT News Director Robert Thomas said Borek's chemistry with morning anchor team Barbara Bailey and Bill Bryant was clear after a day.
"They all hit it off, and, at the same time, he has such a wonderful, outgoing personality," he said. "That's so important in the morning."
Before getting into TV news, Borek worked as a sixth-grade teacher and also spent time at Disney's studio in Burbank, Calif., and as a standup comic.
"After a joke bombs, once you get through that, you can get through anything on TV," Borek said. "At least you don't have the immediate feedback."
Chris Bailey, who had worked at WKYT for 10 years, is leaving to spend more time with his family. He doesn't have a new job lined up, but is working on a weather Web site focusing on Kentucky at www.kentuckyweathercenter.com.
"I just was at a point in my life where I needed to go a different direction with a lot of things," Bailey told the Herald-Leader last month.

Good for Todd...he is as solid as they come! I hope they treat him real well there! WKYT is a Gray station though, but it is the crown jewel of the Gray "Empire".
Does this mean Tony Jr (Josh) takes Todd's spot? Goodness, I hope not, he's hard enough to tolerate on weekends, let alone 5 days a week.
Sax says jump, he says how high, and would you like fries with that? So, probably the answer is yes. Hes cheap and will bend over backwards.

Good for Todd. But are things going to be better in Lexington.
After visiting last fall, I think the population drain on Lexington has been greater than that in the tri-state.

Re: Borek Escapes!
the weather segment on WSAZ is my favorite part of the news. The rest of the newscast is filled with pain at the pump,
the high price of gas, how to save gas, what to do when you have no gas, what do you think about the gas prices, what
companies are doing to help employees save gas, how high will gas prices go, gas stations are running out of gas, gas
companies are making big profits...OKAY WSAZ..WE GET IT.......GAS PRICES ARE HIGH..
Maybe their news director and producers should watch WOWK and WCHS and get some ideas of other stories to cover
and quit acting like your viewers are too dumb to drive by a gas station and look up at that big sign in the parking lot
and see for themselves that gas prices are increasing.

PARKERSBURG, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- West Virginia's most expensive bridge will open to traffic on Friday.
The Blennerhassett Bridge cost nearly $136 million dollars. The bridge is just outside the city limits of Parkersburg.
A ribbon cutting ceremony is set for 1:30pm Friday.
Parkerburg's Mayor says the bridge is a project that's been 60 years in the making.
The Blennerhassett Bridge will carry traffic on Route 50 over the Ohio River. This completes Corridor D, a four lane highway which now runs from Clarksburg in Harrison County into Ohio.
- The correct name is Blennerhassett Island Bridge.
- According to WVDOT, the cost was $122 million.
- "Mayor" should not be capitalized.
- The corridor runs from Clarksburg across southern Ohio to I-275 at Cincinnati.
Three errors and one lazy statement (Google 'corridor d' and get a map in 10 seconds) in a five-sentence story. Impressive.
(I hope Boz is being kept heavily sedated.)

It's not a matter of right or wrong. Most people - not to mention the university - have adopted the postal abbreviation rather than the old traditional state abbreviation, but it's not as if "W. Va." is wrong. "W. Va." is still the commonly-used abbreviation by news organizations and many other information sources. That said, W. Va. would make a shitty logo.RedsFan76 wrote:Let us not forget, it hasn't been W.Va for quite a while, WV PEOPLE!

Re: Borek Escapes!
As a WSAZ viewer, I am personally glad that Todd Borek will be leaving. The chemistry between him and the anchors never seemed to develop, maybe partially because he seems to always be located in some closet somewhere instead of on the same set as the others, he just doesn't seem to do well with the communication between the Huntington anchors at 5 and 5:30. I also find him rambling on for several minutes without telling us anything as compared to Tony who can speak for 10 seconds and explain things precisely (unless he gets into one of his interesting analogies).
