Actors' strike threatens to bring Hollywood to a standstill

This is interesting because I thought this was nearly resolved especially considering most of this dispute is with acting and voice talent in the newest video games were to get royalties based on distribution and sales instead of a single one time fee for their performance.

OK....the writers strike about shut down Hollywood and pissed off a crapload of TV viewers (some finales were down by 20% in ratings). If the actors go on strike, you can kiss a ton of viewers goodbye and watch reality TV shows pop up in place of regular programming.

Let's just hope it is just the movie actors (SAG people) and not TV actors.

Already there. I watch very little on the networks and spend 99% of my time watching other channels like DIscovery and NatGeo. Plus BitTorrent for BBC programs has become a serious alternative in my book to take the place of the original programming I used to watch on HBO. When The Wire concluded, so did my HBO service. I can purchase John Adams on DVD for less than the last 4 months of HBO service.

Might want to see if you can rent it....I'm glad I saw it, but it's not going to matter one bit if I ever see it again.

I agree with the above and would add in the idea that The Olympics and the election will make "regular" TV a lot less relevant in the coming months. There wouldn't seem to be a big reason for urgency on either side.....well, other than survival. I'm hoping radio might benefit, but "hope" is about all I can...well, hope.

However, we have the whole summer between now and then, and there might be some things worth catching....or not.....

Battlestar Galactica......"all will be revealed"....."mid-season finale????" What the frak....??? When's it really finish?

Ice Road Truckers......just not the same so far.....should they have quit with one?

America's Got Talent......I've succeeded in keeping the promise I made myself last year -- I will never again so waste life!

Hogan's Heroes.....returned to TV Land, and that's a good thing......


There's one I'd like to recommend....I seem to be coming late to this party (it's been produced for five years and debuted here last September), but, nevertheless,.....

Corner Gas is a sitcom available on WGN/America (TV You Can't Ignore) that might be described as Seinfeld in the Canadian-prairie middle of the nowhere. Supposedly the most popular Canadian sitcom of all time (the country is notorious for rejecting its own programs; virtually all of the biggies there are American shows), it revolves around eight people who regularly float around the gas station and cafe in a fictional town of 500 along a two-lane highway through the prairie land of Saskatchewan. "Quick-cut slow motion" is how I would describe the style, and, like Seinfeld, the creator and star are the same guy. It's fresh but familiar...it's not necessarily "laugh out loud" funny, but it's very pleasingly pleasant. And the opening and closing themes have that great 70s/80s feel to them....you know, like when TV show theme songs became actual hits.

As long as I have Corner Gas to catch up on, the fall season can debut as late as it wants......

I personally wouldn't care if movies stopped production...I don't watch 'em. As long as "NCIS", "House", "CSI", "L&O: SVU", and "L&O: CI" keep going, I am happy....the rest they could stop production on and I wouldn't care. (I watch alot of things with initials, don't I?)

But I think, in the future, we will see alot of shows take the "L&O: CI" route and air new episodes on cable. More viewers, better ratings.

The wife and step-daughter LOVE Corner Gas. The DVR is filled up, and wifey-poo is getting pissed because there are 90 episodes, and she's pretty sure WGN isn't airing all of them.

"Ghost Hunters" also had a stupid "Mid season finale". I hope that little bit of ridiculousness doesn't catch on with the rest of the TV networks.

Heroes did it....I think The Office did, too. Come to think of it, I think a whole bunch of them did...sort of an incentive to tune in that last week of the November sweeps. They called it something, but I don't remember what.

I'm too new to it to know, but I did look for an episode guide to try to figure out where I had joined and found that WGN/America (TV You Can't Ignore) is not running them in order...not just jumping around within a season, WGN/America (TV You Can't Ignore) jumps forward and backward from season to season, too. It doesn't really matter, I s'pose, but......

I did notice something about the first season as I perused that episode guide -- there seemed to be romantic relationships among the characters, something I've yet to see even a hint of.

That's just a joke, of course...I actually tend to be asleep in right around a minute after hitting the aforementioned pillow and simply would never have enough time to gin up any sobbing.
