[Know It All]

Summer is the time for flip flops, but this one is a little more weather related than those that leave you with dirty toes.

Long-time WKYT meteorologist Chris Bailey and WSAZ weather guy Todd Borek are gonna flip flop slots, and Josh Fitzpatrick is squirming in his diaper.

The Borek thing ran on the board this week, and there is no secret that he wanted out. He's spent a small fortune on Media Line trying to pack his bags. Good for him.

Meanwhile in Horse Country, Bailey had a wife who wanted to come home to Momma who lives in Ashland. If Wifey ain't happy, no one is gonna be happy. Especially Chris. So, Bailey resigned from WKYT, bought a house in Ashland, is packing up for the big move, and will slide into WSAZ soon. Wifey is thrilled and his mother-in-law is baking cakes or something.

The big question is; what shift will Bailey take? He insists on more quality time at home, and doesn't like those early mornings or late nights. Tony sure won't give up the coveted 6. Josh's Mom won't let him stay out past 9 at night, and Marina hits the bricks by noon. Not much space left.

This one will be fun to watch! My bet is that Josh will have to see if Mom will let him stay out a little later and work a screwy schedule. Bailey is a top regional talent, and Fitzpatrick is a newbie who wears loud, ugly shirts and ties. Bailey will win this battle, and Borek scores a great gig.

Too bad that Fitzpatrick isn't the one leaving. His voice is annoying and dresses like a dresses like a pimp.
Have you every watched a newscast with Wooten, Gessler and Fitzpatrick at the newsdesk ?
About five years experience between the three of them.


WSAZ may still be the leader in the market, but won't stay there for long. I watched WCHS 6PM several times
this week and the top stories of the day were Huntington related, while over at WSAZ, they continue to beat
their PAIN AT THE PUMP stories in our heads with network stories from the west coast.

Are you really sure about this??? Sounds like Bailey's side project which might have Gray's blessing esp. if he gets a fill in spot on WSAZ. As far as Borek, moving from Charleston/Huntington to Lexington is a lateral move. He is still in about the same size market so he is doing nothing more than filling time until he can move up market.

The only thing that The Know It All is spinning is wet clothes.

I understand that the Lexington and Charleston/Huntington markets are 64 and 65 respectively. Thats about as lateral as one can get. That being said, there is no question that to outsiders, Lexington is a much better market to work in, and to have on a resume, than Charleston/Huntington. Borek's move is a good gig and more importantly, Bailey's wife and mother-in-law are happy. God knows thats important.

Everybody wins here - except Fitzpatrick. Since he is just happy to be there, or anywhere really, he will be working the schedule from hell which will reduce the time he has available to buy very loud 1970s style shirts and neck ties. He'll still have plenty of time to say hi to his Mom in Gallia County while on TV. That'll make her happy too.

I just find it comical that Josh tries so hard to be just like Tony. Tony is a top notch meteorologist, but as a talent, hardly. Josh should try and mimmick someone with greater on air presence and attire. I swear, they are father and son (except Josh has no meteorlogical knowledge). Both poor talents, both make Versaci want to roll over in his grave. The thrift on 8th St in Huntington would be a step up for Josh's clothing needs.

That being said, there is no question that to outsiders, Lexington is a much better market to work in, and to have on a resume, than Charleston/Huntington.

When reviewing demo tapes for new talent, I do not think talent scouts see a nickel's difference between the two markets. Adam Joseph left WSAZ for WPVI.

Don't fall into the trap that everything glitters in Lexington, KY and to be golden you have to be there. Sorry, but I spend 90% of my time in the world outside the tri-state and people know that the area outside the the boundaries of the Lexington-Fayette metro is as backwards as the rest of the Christian Conservative South with mostly dry areas, NASCAR being the only sport outside of NCAA football and basketball, and the most common form of adult contemporary music comes in the form of country music. Trust me when I say that any area of WV is no worse on a resume than any place in KY.

Truly, you are a small minded person with a lack of worldly experience to think less of people that live and work in WV.
