Too stupid to work a fire-bomb

DULUTH, Ga. -- Late Monday, Duluth police were investigating reports of an Molotov cocktail that had been ignited at a Korean radio station.

According to police, Hong Chae, who they described as a disgruntled former employee of 1080 AM, Atlanta Radio Korea, walked into the offices at 3405-A Duluth Park Lane at 3:30 Monday afternoon with what investigators said was an incendiary device.

Investigators said Chae ignited the device as he walked into the offices, resulting in severe burns. They said that a second man was burned less severely. Both men were taken to Gwinnett Medical Center in Duluth.

Fifty-one-year-old Chae was later booked into the Gwinnett County jail. He's charged with two counts of possession of a destruction device and one count of first degree arson.

Police said Chae was a recently fired salesman.

"A former employee entered the business, and set off the device, we believe to be a Molotov cocktail," said Capt. Tommy Rutledge of the Gwinnett County Fire Department.

Employees said they tried to stop Chae when he threw the cocktail and then tried to run for the studio. They said he started splashing around the liquid -- believed to be paint thinner -- then tried to light it all on fire. Employees tackled Chae, and held him down until authorities arrived.

"There's not a motive at this point," said Rutledge. "That is part of the ongoing investigation. At this point, we can say that the perpetrator is a former employee of the business."

The suspect and a man who tried stop him were both burned, and both taken to the hospital.

The strange attack has left Duluth's Korean community startled.

SIMSBURY, Conn. - Authorities in Connecticut are wondering who stuffed a raw roasting chicken with a pipe bomb and left it on a roadside.


Simsbury police Capt. Matthew Catania says a motorist noticed the chicken Friday morning. He says the bomb was large enough to harm a person if it went off.

The road was closed while the Hartford Police Department's bomb squad came and blew up the chicken.
