The Ultra Deep Field obtained by the Hubble Space Telescope is the deepest view into the sky by humankind to date. This image combines 800 frames with a total exposure time of 1 million seconds. The 10.000 galaxies that are visible have distances out to times where the universe was just 800 million years old, one seventeenth of its current age.
...but there must be some mistake. The BIBLE says we're only 6000 years old. Tell them to re-calculate. I'll be in my house on the nice, flat, Earth not thinking, ignoring scientific fact, and sending money to Falwell.

Creationism does not ignore any observable facts...as a matter of fact, it takes into account many more factors and observations than "science" does.* You should check into it. Right now, it's "scientists" who are generally unthinking, ignoring scientific fact, and sending money to each other's groups (when not stealing it from you and me via the gubmint).
And Falwell has passed. And really was a minor figure that the media found convenient because he was round and southern. By today's benchmarks, Falwell's church is not even particularly large and has almost zero influence on what others are doing. Falwell's son Jonathon, as he transitions that church, is likely to have a much bigger lifetime impact for Christ than his father did, but you'll likely never see or hear him because, being trim and having a rather neutral dialect, the media won't find him useful.
*A fascinating recent example was that Discovery program on dinosaur remains found in North Dakota or wherever that was. The lead scientist on that project appeared on a number of programs in the lead-up promotion for the show. On one appearance I saw, he was asked how dinosaurs would be found at the bottom of a river bed in one of the more northern parts of North America. "Well, obviously, it would have had to have been much warmer back then; we're much cooler now than we were in the past. As far as the remains being found at the bottom of the river bed...you know, we've talked a lot about that because it doesn't make a whole lot of sense. We concluded that it would have had to have had to have been there getting a drink or whatever and then suddenly have been buried in almost an instant...otherwise, it would have been found somewhere else."
"Well, what could do that? What could bury such a large animal in an instant? Landslide?"
"No. We concluded it had to be a massive, all-encompassing, inescapable flood. Nothing else could have done it. Anything else, and (some name...they had apparently given it a name) would have just run away and escaped whatever happened and been found somewhere else."
"Maybe it had died there already."
"No...it showed no signs of attack or illness. That's what was so amazing about this...it had apparently been buried so quickly that it was virtually perfectly preserved, and we were able to check all kinds of ideas."
That's what he very matter-of-factly said in off-script, casual conversation. That never appeared in the Discovery show or any of the other talking-point-based promotion, however. "Science," on the record, as it is practiced and worshipped today, simply cannot even consider anything that even remotely sounds like the Biblical record of history; failing to consider all possibilities because of supposed "given" assumptions means that "sicence" is no longer science. To continue to believe "science" when "science" fails to consider options it simply doesn't want to consider is to be literally closed-minded and a million times more religious than any Christian will ever be.

Science is, indeed, far from perfect. But it does attempt to correct itself if and when it is shown to be wrong. That is what makes it such a worthwhile endeavor.
As far as a Discovery program goes, let's remember that such presentations are what might best be described as "science lite." The true science of such shows would escape most of the audience for whom they are intended.
The difference. When the observations change, the science changes (see "Galileo"). When the observations change, the creationists, well, they don't really care about the observations at all.

Maybe we are only 6,000 years old (not going to argue over biological evolution), but the universe has to be much, much older than that. This picture proves that. Otherwise, we could not see anything in space beyond 6,000 light years, by definition.
These galaxies are so far away, we could not even dream of visiting them. Even 4X warp speed wouldn't get us there within a few thousand years.
The Bible does not specifically say how old the universe is. If anything, it does imply that it existed long before man did. So, this doesn't necessarily disprove the Bible, either.
The biggest problem is that people assume today's calendar and clock applied in the book of Genesis and were authenticated over centuries of biblical translation. When the events of Genesis were occuring ("And on the 4th day, God said let there be ...") maybe a "day" took several hundred or thousand years (in today's definition) to complete. We'll never really know.

...unless the light were already in motion at the moment of creation. Even the "Big Bang" theory implies that.

Since time is a relativistic quantity, 6000 years could be the same as 6 billion years if the
object that is 6,000 years old was moving very close to the speed of light and the 6 billion year observer is not.
Or is it the other way around. A smart lawyer could confuse the jury so much that
a verdict would be impossible. Tycho Brahe died of a burst bladder because he did not want to leave a party.

Some kid stole a school bus and took his family and neighbors out of the hurricane area.

They had to be trucked hundreds of miles to some Mafia landfill.
Re-building is going on right now. In flood prone areas. Just like here in West Virginia.
