How 'bout the fact that Michael is now on WTAE (weekends) in Pittsburgh. (Another loser decision by TRF and) now he is much, much better off even tho it's just part-time.

The word on the street is that his job is temporary -- not necessarily permanent. WTAE needed someone Right Now, and he was available.

These facts in no way diminish Haynes's accomplishment of jumping from a 150-something market to a top 25-something market.

Not wanting to add another topic on Meteorologists, but is Joe Sobel (sp) the local Chief Meteorologist in Charleston who's heard on Raesie's stations, real... or is he another Alan Archer? I heard him a few weeks ago near Raleigh North Carolina on my radio. Same voice, same name.

"Dr. Joe Sobel (born October 16, 1945), a meteorologist, is a native of New York City, New York, USA and a graduate of George W. Hewlett High School on Long Island. He received his B.S. in meteorology from the University of Michigan in 1967 and an M.S. and Ph.D. in meteorology from the Pennsylvania State University in 1970 and 1976 respectively. Sobel was named a Centennial Fellow of the Penn State College of Earth and Mineral Sciences in 1996 and inducted into the Hewlett High School Hall of Fame in 2001.

Sobel is a member of the American Meteorological Society (AMS) and holds the AMS Seal of Approval for Television Meteorology. In 2004 he was recognized by the AMS for Outstanding Service as a Broadcast Meteorologist.[1] Dr. Sobel is co-inventor of the AccuWeather Exclusive RealFeel Temperature(r).[2]

Sobel has been an employee of AccuWeather, Inc. since 1972. He has provided more than one million weather forecasts and discussions to radio stations across the United States since 1972. A nationally-recognized meteorologist, he was featured in the September 20, 2002 Newsweek article “Nerds of Weather.”

Sobel has also been featured as an expert on cable television series including Court TV’s Forensic Files in the episode “Dew Process"[4] and the History Channel’s Monster Quest in the episode “Birdzilla.”[5]"

Joe Sobel is the Accuweather Meterologist serving WCHS in Charleston. He's extremely intelligent and is used in a number of large markets. I once saw him on one of those crime show documentaries on Court TV. He testified in a high profile trial as a "forensic meterologist" since weather somehow was a factor in the timeline of a killing or whatever. WAJR in Morgantown has Elliot Abrams as their chief accuweather guy. Both of these fellows are as good as it gets in forecasting the weather, the truth is Accuweather overall is a bang-up weather service and argueably the best anywhere. Not only do they provide custom forecasting for radio stations, but also for TV, websites, etch. They're based in State College, PA.

Joe Sobel...Elliot Abrams...Both of these fellows are as good as it gets in forecasting the weather, the truth is Accuweather overall is a bang-up weather service and arguably the best anywhere.

In years past, I considered Accuweather the semi-sucky solution for really sucky stations that couldn't get real folks nearby. Now, though, I realize that these people kick all forms, parts, and sides of tail. Though seemingly sitting in the middle of nowhere and "x" number of miles from wherever you are, they will do as well or better than your local guys, they have the guts to forecast farther out than almost anyone, and their talents (even the younger ones, generally) just ooze intelligence and competence. And, while NOAA and all the other usual "departments" and "agencies" you hear about have whiffed on their seasonal and hurricane forecasts the past years, Accuweather has been spot-on.

(That's largely because they are smart enough and know enough not to buy the whole "global warming" bullcrap, by the way. Accuweather's Joe Bastardi knows weather history like no one else and will simply tell you we're running the pattern "last seen in year 19xx" and will come out of it "this way," and he has been and will continue to be right.)
