Might as well just stick to the smaller pond.
I agree.
And I wonder how many who did lots of move-ins would now agree, too.

If WPAY had the same coverage it had before they fell below 100Kw - that map is accurate.

Field strength in Huntington denotes otherwise.

Ding ding ding ding ding ding ding!

When I read, "Fact: The damn thing is 100,000 watts. It doesnt matter where the damn translator is, it covers 100% of the entire metro crystal clear," I was going to reply, "Yes, and theoretical lines on maps always represent reality, don't they?"

I first learned that probably 20 years ago when trying to figure out why one station in a large southern market could never compete with another despite what I (and plenty of others) thought was a better product. Turned out the bulk of the format's partisans lived in the northern half of the market and the winning station's transmitter was 30 or 40 miles north of the challenging station's. Both were Cs and had city grade over the entire market (and much more), but the one with the closer tower got the majority of the home and work listening and won 8.0-8.5 to 5.5-6.0 book after book.

Lets all jump off the roof too Arp. Maybe we can land on the 2nd story window ledge.

I know no one here believes in the research. I know no one here believes in the listener, the client, etc. That was proven by everyone calling me an idiot.

One man...Randy Michaels comes to mind when he owned Seven Hills. He did the research, he understood how important it was. Even if he had a rim-shot signal...he realized the impact it could have to the superior in-city signal...its called dragging it down to build upon your assets.

I dont care if you think research is wrong tell that to the radio company that spends the $60,000 for it and wins when they follow it to the T. I dont care if you think Hot AC wont work...thats not the issue, the issue is that you think that you want to feel good by telling people dont listen to the research, now thats smart radio...right?

In two ways you have proven your wisdom or lack thereof. First, you generalize saying NO ONE here believes in research and that EVERYONE here criticized you. Neither is true.

Second, you praised Randy Michaels as having a superior knowledge of radio. He's proven his wisdom, too.

Thanks for showing us your true colors.

Goodbye and good luck.

You'll need it.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Yes, its true. A new broadcasting company is soon on the way investing in local stations in West Virginia, Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana.

The company is currently in the process of purchasing an AM/FM combo in Columbus Indiana, however plans are in the works to add more to the market, along with new stations near Bluefield, Huntington and Williamson.

The company is owned by former VP/Media Advancement for Jacor, Shelly C. Minnton. Look for more soon..

Interesting!!!!

Maybe build a state of the art studio complex in Beebe right along US 119. Open a sales office in Delbarton to serve Mingo County and have a linked news room there as well.

1290 WVOW News/Talk/Sports "News Radio West Virginia 1290 AM"

1360 WHJC News/Talk/Sports "News Radio West Virginia 1360 AM"

101.9 WVOW Adult Contemporary "1019 Lite FM - Continuous Lite Rock"

106.7 WVKM Adult Top 40 "K106.7 - #1 For Today's Hit Music"

If you could get another signal at say 4,000 watts at Man or Delbarton, I would put on a Heritage Rock format.

When building the stations up in revenue, offer local sporting events on Newsradio West Virginia and 101.9.

SW-WVA and E-KY have been in dire need of a well programmed AC station. Everyone is doing Country or some form of Classic Hits or Classic Rock or Oldies. If someone walked in with a brain for AC...it would be the powerhouse station!

How's that workin' out?

I didn't even know they had broadcast management and programming classes at Morehead State. Must get LSD as part of the course.

I'm not sure if anyone but me keeps an ear on WPAY but, they've changed their branding and added new imaging. They've dropped the old "Par Cuntry 104 point 1, WPAY", now it's "Power Country 104".

I've heard so many on-air train wrecks over the years come outta Portsmouth but, I've never heard anyone knock the music they play. It's the opposite. I don't know when hell froze over. Things have changed... to some degree.

Give it a listen when you get a chance. The change is significant.

*If someone already posted this I apologize. I couldn't read all of the ESPN Fantasy Radio League posts. No offense.

Yes, but barely. They have a station and teach a few courses around its operations. Probably enough courses are offered to get a BUS with major in broadcast.

Unless things changed, Morehead was more of your potsmoking/beer drinking school with sociable professors that joined us (students) for the experience from time to time.

MOREHEAD STATE:

* Depressing campus. Most buildings are those low-to-the-ground, flat roofed, with rows of office building type windows. Lots of paved parking. A screwed up campus road system. It looks like an Air Force Base from 1958. Think of those early black-and-white "I Dream of Jeannie" shows ...

* A couple of really wierd dorms. One looks like a 1950s Holiday Inn, another looks like the Hoover Dam stuck in between two big hills with a road running under the building.

* Not much to do for a college town, but I understand that's how the locals like it. Nice and controlled, 'Old Money' style. A number of decent places to eat -- mainly fast food but a surprising variety of choices. Most students party in Huntington or Lexington. Or in off campus housing. I understand Morehead has a fairly robust Greek scene with lots of Fraternities and Sororities. And a kick-ass multi-year National Champion co-ed Cheerleading team.

* Academics are decent, but the school always appears to be financially struggling. Again, very little *new* anything. It's like they expect to close up shop in a few years. I do know about a half-dozen people who graduated from Morehead. All of them really liked the school and felt they got a good education there.

Just my $0.02.

Translators are a Pox on the FM radio dial.

WBZX - COLUMBUS becomes Z100 - ALL THE HITS and make it a powerful CHR station to battle WNCI. Allow it to wedge itself between WNCI and WCKX. It may never beat WNCI, but with the station being the markets biggest biller, there are a few bucks that could go to a new CHR in town.

Remember this Clear Channel is extremely vulnerable right now. They are in a world of hurt because of the screw-ups in SanAntonio. Marketing dollars just arent there, they have a voice tracked mid-day host.

WTDA - WESTERVILLE becomes 103.9 THE BLITZ and you move Active Rock to a much smaller signal but could do much better in the ratings.
Oops....
