Karma = Eliot Spitzer

This is a good place to drop general and weird news, entertainment, and general show prep material that might be interesting to air talent or producers. Hot dog threads ALWAYS welcome.

The only question now is the age and gender of the prostitute involved.

Maybe species too.

This whole thing is somewhat fuzzy. I am hearing a generalization that does not necessarily equate a smoking gun and a bunch of quasi/psuedo logic that equates that this is the what happened.

Didn't the New York Times pull this same stunt with McCain and lose when they suggested he had an affair.

You are right Genlock, I want to know what sex and age of prostitute because Spitzer is a definitely pu$$y. Maybe he is stopping the buck this way to prevent a McGreavy?

The biggest question is who will get the interview with "Kristen"?

I would have thought Spitzer would be more of a sheep lovin' kind.

That was baa'aaa'aaad.

Kristen? He came clean over a Kristen?

(sigh)

Are we sure Eliot still has the bollacks that that he had when he attacked the world of radio and records?

7:39 pm
Edit: Spitzer is in a whole heap of trouble and could be facing 20 years in the federal pokey. Looks like Eliot and Kristen left a trail like a caterpillar.

This morning, this scandal produced some of the most interesting -- and most NASTY -- television I've seen in a long time....all on CNBC.

It started with Ken Langone, a NYSE board member who got pulled into one of Spitzer's witch hunts, telling the reporter he knew it was coming sooner or later because a friend of his personally witnessed the governor of New York standing in a post office line and buying a USPS money order to send to the "service."

Then, a ridiculous former Lt Governor of New York appeared, apparently to give insight into the statehouse and the process of seating a new governor. She talked about the state rep in jail and the State Senate President under investigation for something corrupt, yes, but, soon, she began a Clintonesque defense of Spitzer remaing...something like "it's a shame some will want to pursue this because it will cost taxpayers' money that could be used to help the poor unemployed in the upstate or the schools for the children of New York." Well, our buddy and pal CNBC On-Air Editor Charlie Gasparino was there, and, even though Carl and Becky were letting her go on, he wasn't going to put up with that!

Here's part one....I say "part one" because CNBC edited the end off of it. Why did CNBC edit the end off of it? Easy....the woman got even more ridiculous!

Clueless the show was still on the air, the former Lt Governor started looking to the hosts for comfort...."that was the rudest..." Becky Quick, who reflexively comes to the aid of anyone on the left and has had semi-frequent run-ins and relationship problems with Gasparino, apologized to her. The woman started saying something like, "Lt Governor?! You just show up, you sit for four years, and you leave....!" Carl told her they were still on the air and to make sure what she was saying was "for public consumption." The woman started nervously laughing like someone who rides the short bus.

Part two -- all the way to the end -- is here. If you don't care that much about the background and the generic talk about it, watch just this part.

Next, we jump forward a half-hour.....same subject, different angle and guests, but with Charlie Gasparino back again. Charlie stated that the financial journalists in general (Carl and Becky are "journalists" with "journalist" backgrounds while Joe is a broker-turned-accidental-broadcaster and is first to disavow the term "journalist") had been complicit in Spitzer's rise to power and attacks because they portrayed him as a white knight riding to the rescue when they knew of his arrogance, abuses of power for political gain, questionable political past, and his making of targets people who were often completely innocent bystanders. Well, that brought reactions....

So much more real than reality tv! :D

NY Gov. Eliot Spitzer resigns from office amid prostitution scandal
Mar 12, 2008 @ 11:55 AM
Herald-Dispatch.com

NEW YORK (AP)

Gov. Eliot Spitzer resigned in disgrace Wednesday after getting caught in a call-girl scandal that shattered his corruption-fighting, straight-arrow image, saying: "I cannot allow my private failings to disrupt the people's work."

Spitzer will be replaced by Lt. Gov. David Paterson, who becomes New York's first black governor, effective Monday. Spitzer's minute-long statement made no mention of whether he had reached a deal with federal prosecutors to avoid charges.

"I go forward with the belief as others have said that as human beings our greatest glory consists not in never falling but in rising every time we fall," Spitzer said at a Manhattan news conference with his wife, Silda, at his side. He left without answering questions.

The scandal erupted Monday when allegations surfaced that the 48-year-old Spitzer spent thousands of dollars on a call girl at a swanky Washington hotel on the night before Valentine's Day.

Spitzer was more composed than he was earlier in the week, when he apologized for an undisclosed personal failing and looked pale, drawn and glassy-eyed. His wife took deep breaths as hundreds of photos were taken at close range. Each of Spitzer's words was accompanied by a rush of camera clicks.

The Spitzer discussion continued this morning (pre-resignation) on CNBC, and, once again, CNBC has some of the most interesting stuff you could come across....

One segment featured two "crisis management" experts. One had an extensive background with politicians and, probably without even realizing it, admitted that Democrat politicians should always go to CBS' 60 Minutes and The New York Times because they will virtually always be extremely friendly, assist you in getting your "story" out, and help frame the whole thing exactly the way the Democrat politicians or operatives want it framed! Going to those two places is always his first step after deciding on the plan!

Another segment featured Democrat DC Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton. Very casual and loose, Eleanor made three admissions that would be surprising if they occurred in some other venues. First, she admitted that she historically plays "identity politics" and, as a result, had the darnedest time choosing a presidential contender to support before deciding to go with "race" this time. Second, she stated that "superdelegates" exist to "be the grown-ups" and make the decision when "the delegates don't know who they're supposed to be choosing." Third, Eleanor said Democrat party officials send out directives that tell politicians and operatives the shows they're not supposed to appear on; she and some others, ignoring the memos, go where they want, though.

Finally, Charlie Gasparino wrote up his firsthand observations regarding the charge he made yesterday that the press, especially the financial press, was complicit in Spitzer's rise and revealed that he had been one of many subjects of Spitzer's office's intimidation. His article is somewhat watered down for print, though; today, on-air on CNBC, Gasparino stated that journalists built their own careers by voluntarily building up Spitzer's image and campaigns (thus ensuring leaks would continue to come their way) and likened the whole thing to "taking payola." An opinion writer for the Wall Street Journal made the same case here.

His wife seems like a good woman. I kinda feel bad for her. You can tell she's very uncomfortable being out there with him.

As for Eliot, I can't say I don't love it when good moralists are exposed as hypocrite phonies.

"The Daily Show" from day before last was hysterical. They were going on about why was his wife there. How does she prepare for something like that? "Do these pants make my ass look humiliated?" And why even have her there... take the hooker... everyone wants to see her anyway.

Federal prosecutors are investigating whether Gov. Eliot Spitzer used campaign funds in connection with his meetings with prostitutes, including payments for hotels or ground transportation, three people with knowledge of the investigation said.
