Movie casting of West Virginia "mountain people"

This is a good place to drop general and weird news, entertainment, and general show prep material that might be interesting to air talent or producers. Hot dog threads ALWAYS welcome.

Movie casting of West Virginia "mountain people"

Post by Ace Purple »

A movie about to be filmed in Pittsburgh is casting Gothic characters -- including an albino-like girl and deformed people -- to depict West Virginia mountain people.

Christ has spoken and he says he is not responsible for any of these types of people.

OH NO!

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - The producers of the horror thriller "Shelter" have fired a casting director who put out what they say was an insensitive casting call for extras to appear in a scene set in West Virginia.

The casting call from Donna Belajac Casting of Pittsburgh prompted an outcry from Governor Manchin and others. They said it stereotypes West Virginians as inbred and carnival sideshows.

"Shelter" producers Emilio Diez Barroso and Darlene Caamano Loquet say the movie isn't set in West Virginia and the state won't even be mentioned.

Barroso and Loquet say the casting call was put out without their knowledge.

Man, I was hoping to land a part!

I submitted the follow to Fark:

"WV Governor says no to use of inbred looking state citizens for cheezy movie".

(Naturally they wont use it because they wouldnt even run the first story. Why? Because Drew's from Kentucky.... just a little to close to home for this type of 'comedy".

Maybe it's finally becoming politically incorrect to stereotype and make fun of Appalachian people.

What was the horror movie set in WV a few years back? "Wrong Turn"? Something like that. It was full of Nunley's relatives.
