Quiz: In your opinion.....

This is a good place to drop general and weird news, entertainment, and general show prep material that might be interesting to air talent or producers. Hot dog threads ALWAYS welcome.

Quiz: In your opinion.....

Post by Force Commander »

What is the biggest event in your lifetime?

For me before 9/11 it was the Challenger Space Shuttle disaster. The 2004 Christmastime Tsunami certainly the worst after. Politics is a tie with Nixon/Watergate and Bill Clinton/Girlgate.

That is what comes to mind anyway, how about you?

9/11, hands down. I was in Northern VA at the time.

Incredibly intense times... Hope I never have to endure anything like that again.

I was also there during the anthrax mail scare (the perp still remains at large), and the DC sniper shootings. These events were also magnified locally occurring in the shadow of 9/11.

Politically, the Clinton presidency is the first one I really remember, along with all of its scandals. Then there was the 2000 election fiasco.

Right now, it's Britney, and whether or not she gets better.

Yeah, I gotta go with man on the moon, too. What even remotely compares?

9/11

I wasn't around for the man on the moon or the Kennedy assassination, but I can not imagine it being quite as life-altering as 9/11.

Man on the moon: I kept begging my parents to get a color TV so I could see what color space is...

9/11: trying to get off a base for over an hour while reports of additional bombs going off and planes headed for DC was INTENSE.

JFK assassination: I was hardly two years old, but I clearly remember where I was and how I found out (via WTAP.)

Challenger
Apollo-Soyuz

You know, looking back on it, 9-11 doesn't seem as large to me any more. It cerainly has changed our lives, in my opinion mostly for the worse. But worse had already happened (Pearl Harbor) and as bad or worse has happened world wide.

The moon landing was a major step forward for the human race as a whole, while 9-11 will eventually be remembered as one terrorist attack among many.

The moon landing (and really the space program as a whole) continues to affect nearly every aspect of our daily lives, from computers to medicine.
And of course, Tang.

In all seriousness I would have to go with 9/11. The Iranian hostage situation was a big deal back then, but I'm not so sure it would be today.

9/11 hands down for me. I remember that false sense of being safe was swiftly removed for a few months

9-11 was big but to me the biggest was the birth of my children and then the death of my son. these made all the rest of things small. another big thing was the Marshall Plane crash. I was working the night this happened. with the 9-11 crash I often wonder what happened to the video of the second plane crashing into the last tower. this was a great picture but never seen again. I was working at that time and saw it come through the building and out the other side.
as to the walk on the moon. I saw it on tv. the first words spoken were not the one small step words but it is soft and sandy or something like that. he was talking about the soil on the moon. then the one small step line.

An interesting sidebar, the actual broadcast from the Moon was a clear (no fuzz) broadcast.

http://www.smh.com.au/news/national/one ... 28978.html
It is not widely known that the Apollo 11 television broadcast from the moon was a high-quality transmission, far sharper than the blurry version relayed instantly to the world on that July day in 1969.
The article's main point is about NASA apparently lost the Apollo footage itself.
