Talk damned you!

If it's about broadcasting, radio, TV, satellite, cable, this is where to talk about it.

Talk damned you!

Post by CoolBreeze »

I cracked-up when I heard some WSAZ reporter, covering todays story about some people stealing gas.

Reporter begging incredulously: "what.. you're going to keep silent when you're being arrested??" ..... and then almost demanding that the woman "DEFEND YOURSELF!"

Here's the video. Is it just me, or do you find it funny also?

Raw video.
They will edit out the "reporter stupid" parts for air.
Their reporters have taken a quantum leap backward in the last few years.
Must be Gray company cost cutting.

Kallie Cart did a good job with a studio piece on the gas station stuff in S chas. She is a former Miss Oktoberfest in Buffalo, WV. Her family must have some money as they sent her to the Jamie Dickenson college prep course.

It was Gil McClanahan asking the questions. He was holding the mic for WSAZ as well. Go get em' Gil! I don't blame him. The dummy's shouldn't have been discounting gas to just a few of us... If you're going to do it, do it for everyone. We promise we'll keep it quiet then!

There was a time when the job was, "Who, what, when, where, why, and how," not "How do you feeeel?" or "What do you have to say for yourself?"

Now, the only difference between being a "reporter" and being a Jerry Springer producer is..........um.......heck, I don't know!

Gil McClanahan? I didn't know he was still around. He was up here at WTAP until they realized he wasn't sexy enough to sit next to Denise Alex.

I'm a little troubled by the way this was done and I agree with Arp2. I guess I can understand asking why or whatever, but he's not so much asking as he asking in an accusatory type way. You almost get the idea that he owned the gas station and that they took the gas from him.

No, it is pinch hitter Steve and the guy on the sound board who must have been trained by the producers of CNBC Squawkbox.

Of course, Squawk wins hands down for having some of the deepest cuts I have ever heard played on a morning news program.

Here's the audio (which has been edited for time). Not as funny without the video of the woman telling him to get f**ked.

If it's the same Gil McClanahan that lived on Lincoln Place in Huntington, he had a pair of hot as hell daughters.

Why is Gray allowing b-reel footage on the web page?

I was friends with Keri, went out to eat a few times. I only met her sister like once. The irony is that I did actually date and do her high school rival.

I'm not 100% sure exactly what you mean by that, but, on the topic of CNBC's Squawk, did you happen to see this morning's edition between 8:20 and 8:45?!? People were all but calling each other "stupid, ignorant, moronic imbeciles" and getting into fist-fights!

After the rate cuts, various managers/economists/commentators/players were all being brought on the air to comment on the cuts. Really wild stuff started happening when various guys started remembering what the other guys had said in the past about rates, growth, monetary policy, and so on....several things stood out.....

Jared Bernstein....like Bob Reich, he's an economist who will come on and reliably spout the party line of the communist/socialist left (I'm pretty sure he thinks John Edwards is still too free-market!). He's on around 8:30, talking about the cut and lack of projected growth in the first quarter and blah blah blah, and Brian Wesbury is brought into the discussion. Brian just picks up with the flow of the topic and, remembering what Bernstein had said in the past, points out that Bernstein has said the very same "gloom and doom" thing in the first quarter last year (the last three or four years in a row, as a matter of fact) only to be proven wrong by much stronger growth in the second and third quarters (of each year, year after year). It started as somewhat normal conversation, but Brian's obviously frustrated that Jared and others keep doing this and getting away with it every year when they're clearly wrong every time due to the cyclical and seasonal nature of commerce!

Jared jumps back in (slightly stammering but still smiling) and comes back with, "you know, our argument from a year ago is not that interesting. What's important here is going forward...." Well, that's just too much for even left-leaning Carl Quintinilla to handle, and he burst out with laughter!

A few minutes later, Greg Ip is on and comments. A couple of minutes after that, Cramer is on the phone commenting and, remembering what Ip had written just three weeks ago, points out that Ip all but stated The Fed had the exact opposite views and plans as what today showed. Ip defends himself by relaying what Fed governors had been saying, but Cramer's not having much of it....

A minute or two later, Ip is gone, Cramer is still on the phone ranting about Bernanke, and Rick Santelli butts in and, remembering what Cramer had been saying night after night just a few months ago, says that Cramer shouldn't have been so hard on Ip because BOA and others had the same conclusions about The Fed's stance, the credit stuff had been going on for years, and Cramer had been calling for a bull market until just recently. Cramer fires back to defend himself, and Santelli says, "Come on, Jim...," while shaking his head and turning away in disgust.

Folks, if you're not accustomed to the smart, edumacated, semi-intellectual, Wall-Street-ish, the-world-didn't-exist-before-today kind of discussion that goes on on these shows, you need to know this was the financial world's equivalent of guys repeatedly kicking each other in the jewels and then bringing uppercut after uppercut once the guy had doubled over. I mean, actually remembering and bringing up what a guy said or wrote in the past and then saying out loud whether it was right,........man!

By the way, folks, if you've been wanting/hoping to refinance to lock in a more comfortable rate, get your stuff together and be ready to start looking around in 2-4-6 weeks......yet another cut is expected in about 10 days and maybe even another one a month after that......

...and, if you haven't funded last year's IRA, today -- today! -- might be an excellent day to EFT that into your stock-based fund(s)....

(Blah blah blah...personal opinion and general advice...may not be right for you or your situation...no promises or guarantees made or implied....blah blah blah....)

That light bulb sort of went on for me the other day when I heard about the rate cuts. This would be a great time for me to find more living space, but the problem is getting the current place to sell... :x

This may be a great year to buy a new car, too. Low interest rates plus a backload of inventory.

I should clarify something.....

Note that I said "be ready to start looking." I'm not saying the lowest rates will necessarily come at those times, but they should be times to be looking...you may not have to wait the 2-4-6 weeks (they could come within days), or you might have to wait longer.

Mortgage rates are more aligned with longterm (10+-year) bond rates than with the Fed Funds rate or the Discount rate, so you'd want to eye the bond rates more for hints. The reason that the Fed's move is worth noting for this purpose is that the returns (interest rates, in this case) on money in different vehicles tend to maintain certain relationships that bring about a kind of balance amongst them. Kinda.

Too Sexy For Our Jobs?

Post by denisealex »

:D

So Gil sent me an email telling me about this posting talking about the "walkdown" he did with the suspects, grilling them McClannahan-style.

Gil used to crack me up when he interogated people just arrested for a crime when we working together at WTAP.

Everyone has their own way of doing things... his is unique!

To say he isn't sexy... bet his wife Connie would beg to differ! Ha!Ha!

And for who ever it was who remembered my milk-nose story. You rock! Great memory! Fairmont, WV's finest!

By the way I ate the cereal on the other side of the bowl! Now that's hot!
